Baby wearing question...back ache!

My daughter is 4wks and my 4th baby. I also have a 1yr old, an 8yr old and a 4yr old. My youngest is already proving to be a bit clingy and cries when I put her down. I’ve been wearing a wrap carrier round the house to get things done. Trouble is my back aches within minutes. I have her as high up as I can without bashing my chin on her head. I’ve tried a Moby wrap and a connecta and same problem, muscle pain across the centre of my back, like if I’d been slouching at a desk. Any suggestions of why I might get this, or which other carriers to try? I’ve been to a sling library and the lady was surprised my back hurt so quick with a wrap sling x

Do you have it tight enough?

If so, it could just be that your muscles are still weak from pregnancy and they need to get used to it. I had a bit of lower back pain when first 'wearing' my DC1 - the lovely sling library lady who helped me gave me some good pointers about making sure I tried to stand straight and engage my 'deep core muscles' (i.e. pull in your belly button) so that I was using them instead of my back muscles.

Try also doing some thoracic mobilisation exercise to release the tension in your mid/upper back. Look up 'threading the needle' (it's a pilates exercise)

Hard to say without seeing you. Do you have any sling meets near you?

Often the solution is to pull it tighter and keep the tension all the way along. If you have a local sling library it's. Deff worth popping along as they can often help you tweek things and get it comfy
