When did your child start using a duvet?

My son is almost 1. We've bought him a duvet set for his birthday, only because it was being discontinued so not in any rush to use it. At the moment, he's still in a sleeping bag (no blankets).
Just out of interest really: when did you stop using a sleeping bag/start using a duvet with your child(ren)?

When he grew out of the grow bag, so at 18 months.

DD will have a duvet once she's grown out of hers. She's only 1.

My DS is nearly 2, he's been using a duvet for about 6 months I think? Maybe a bit less. We changed him over when he got too big for his sleeping bag. At first we had to keep popping in to cover him up as he wriggled out, but now he wraps himself up in a little cocoon Smile

Ds was in his sleeping bag until 2 and a half. He had a bag that went up to age 3.

No sign of one yet

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 12/02/2018 21:27

I have just reaslised how unhelpful that is

Ds1 started with a duvet when he got into big boys bed at about 2

He no longer has a duvet either Sad

Topsyloulou · 12/02/2018 21:29

DS moved from the cot to the toddler bed at 20 months and used a duvet from then.

StylishDuck · 12/02/2018 21:33

DD was 2.5 when we switched from sleeping bag to duvet. She's quite petite for her age though so fitted a 18-24 month sleeping bag until then. We took the bars off her cot a few months later just before her 3rd birthday.

pastabest · 12/02/2018 21:33

Around 11 months, and a pillow.

She kept wanting to come into our bed and seemed to like our duvet so we were trying to encourage her to stay in her own bed for longer. It worked for a short period of time.

underneaththeash · 12/02/2018 21:33

Ds1 didn’t fit in his grow bag after around 14-15 months so had a duvet, Ds2 was around 18 mo, DD was in her cot longer (she is quite little) and was around 3 before she had a duvet.

Pennywhistle · 12/02/2018 21:34

20 months when they moved to a proper bed.

WTFIsThisVirus · 12/02/2018 21:36

We've tried DS (19 months) with a duvet , but he just kicks it off. So, instead, the heating is always on in his room. I really hope he grows out of it!

upsideup · 12/02/2018 21:36

4 DC all probably between 12-18 months

TefalTester123 · 12/02/2018 21:37

When they moved to a bed - 2 and a half ish?

youlemming · 12/02/2018 21:55

DD2 is awful for kicking the covers off so even though she has had a duvet since Christmas and is 2.5yrs we have a twinkle tog, which is like a grow/sleeping bag but with legs.
Had one for DD1 who is now 8 and managed to find a couple extra on eBay, a great solution for winter if you have little wrigglers :-)

Anxiouschild · 12/02/2018 22:17

16mo and 14mo. Pillow introduced at 12mo both times.
Guidelines are not before 12m.

Pointlessfacts · 12/02/2018 22:19

Glad I found this thread.

My DS is nearly 11 months, he's in a sleeping bag, I was going to keep him in it until he went into a proper bed as he loves to wriggle.

Not entirely sure the tog of the sleeping bag so he has a blanket in his cot in case he gets cold.

He's about to outgrow his currently sleeping bag so will be buying a 12-18 months one next.

coffeecoffeemorecoffee · 12/02/2018 22:28

Both of mine were around 12 months. My youngest is 18 months and loves the pillow, she slept better with a pillow and duvet

coffeecoffeemorecoffee · 12/02/2018 22:31

B oth of mine were around 12 months. My youngest is 18 months and loves the pillow, she slept better with a pillow and duvet so it’s worked well for her in terms of a better nights sleep

Scrumptiousbears · 12/02/2018 22:43

My DD was given a duvet at 21 months. She wasn't keen but then again I'm not sure she realised what it was for Grin. After a week or so she go used to it.

BackforGood · 12/02/2018 22:43

When they moved into a bed - coming up to 2

ineedcoffeecoffeecoffee · 13/02/2018 07:13

At 2 when he went into a single bed. He would roll everywhere in his cot so I kept him in his sleeping bags until then. He nows wraps the quilt right around him at age 5. Pretty much like he’s still in a bag 😂
