Best blackout blinds?

Bit of a random question but I thought plenty of parents have battled to darken bedrooms so you might be able to help!

DS (4 months) is currently in our room and naps best in a darkened room. We're using the Gro Anywhere blind as a temporary measure but it doesn't fit well and too much light leaks in around the edges. I want a really good blackout blind for his nursery. We currently have blackout curtains but really they just dim the light and again, it leaks around the edges. I'm hoping a combo of a good blind and the curtains will help.

Happy to pay a bit extra for decent blackout performance. Strongly prefer cordless for safety reasons.

Look on Amazon for blackout curtains. We did use the gro anywhere blind. It's fine, but it does fall down a lot and leaves marks on the window. It's good for travel though, which is probably what it's made for.

We just outfitted pretty much our whole upstairs with blackout curtains for everyone (our older dd's room, new baby's room and our room). We got ones made by Deconovo and they are great. Really nice quality and they do the job. Some light will come around the edges, but you don't need it pitch black at all times. I like these much more than the gro blind.

Bloc blinds do some great ones. We had the gro blinds and they didn’t seem to keep the light out very well and would drop off!

I use Easy blackout blind, on amazon. You stick the Velcro round the window frame then the fabric sticks on so it doesn't let in any light at all.

Mind, it's actually the Deconova ones off Amazon that we have up! They are ok, but aren't doing a good enough job of blocking out the light. I'd like as dark as possible to (hopefully) reduce the change of early wakes when summer comes.

Thanks Buppy. I was looking at Bloc Blinds. They do BlocOut Blinds which have runners down the sides, but are seriously expensive. I'll have another look at their regular blackout blinds. Can't wait to be shot of the Gro Blinds. Fine for occasional use but really annoying to use regularly (I realise they aren't designed for that).

Thanks Acorn. I'll have a look. I wanted something that was easy to open and close several times a day, so not sure if Velcro would be a bit annoying? Sounds effective though.

We have ordered blinds from blinds 2 go for a lot of our windows and they have been good. But not had a blackout roller blind to be fair but the website is helpful and you can order samples. I was planning on ordering a blackout blind from there when my daughter moves rooms soon and using blackout curtains as well.

We have it REALLY dark in our kids rooms . We have standard days and night roller blinds which are pants for blackout but good for the day. We have blackout lined curtains which do a pretty good job. BUT the really beauty is perfect fit blackout cells and they are MEGA dark! I have to wake ALL 3 kids every morning !! We got our blinds local firm but they are on web www.blinds-superstore.co.uk . They are super on giving advice which is all free . I think those stick on blinds are good when your going away to caravans etc to make it darker . Hope this helps....parents need sleep 😂😂😂

It's all about the fit. Light will come through any crack around the edges no matter how good the blackout material is

Just wanted to update on this. After much hunting, I’ve found these total blackout blinds with runners down the edge which is exactly what I wanted. They are pricey but after 6 months putting up with Gro Blinds and their stupid suckers, I’d happily pay this for my sanity!

I haven’t ordered ours yet so I can’t vouch for how good they are, but they look prettt decent. Updating as a search shows this topic has come up a number of times but it’s not easy to find this type of total blackout blind.

Right our blind has arrived and was fitted today. While I went through Order Blinds, it was made in Ireland by Bloc Blinds and Ivassume can also be ordered from them direct.

Not cheap but exactly what I wanted. I’m really pleased. It is pitch black in the nursery now! The blind blocks out 99.9% of the light, with a minuscule amount leaking through at the cassette joints - only if you’re looking directly at it, it makes no difference to how dark the room is. We closed our curtains over the top and it is 100% total blackout. Just thought I’d update in case anyone finds this post when searching the topic.

We found the velcro ones a nightmare in the summer as they stopped any ventilation coming in. The gro anywhere blind was rubbish as it fell down all of the time! We have a halfway house with a roller black out blind and blackout curtains. There is some light leakage around the edge but its dark enough. And it means that if we go and stay somewhere else he doesn't need 100% pitch black to sleep.
