Why won't my kids sleep???

I have always had trouble getting my boys to sleep at a proper time, they're just so full of energy constantly but then the next day they're groggy and my youngest won't get up for school.

I thought maybe I'm too soft so I started putting them to bed at 7 and 8pm and putting them back in bed everytime they get up. I've been doing that all night and eventually they started to stay in bed so I assumed they were asleep...just came upstairs now and my 8 year old is still wide awake and my 6 year old has only just gone to sleep from 7pm!? how do I get them to sleep at a reasonable time?

most things seem to have a two week delay taking effect, and also you'd probably need to get them up consistantly earlier.

Have you considered that maybe 7 PM is too early a bedtime? How many hours of sleep do you think they need?
