How can I get routine back on track?

My DS (3 and 4 months) has had a slight cold for a few days but yesterday was well enough to go out with his Dad to grandparents. They didn't get back till 11pm due to traffic problems and so DS didn't get to sleep till 11.30.

His cold has come on really badly during the night and he kept getting up to sleep with us. Then the man upstairs was stomping about till 4.30am so a cr*p night's sleep all round.

Any ideas whether I should make DS get up in the next half hour or so, make him have a nap this afternoon or not and then whether to make bedtime earlier or later than usual tonight?

I would try to get back to normal routine times ie put him to bed at his usual time, and only let him have an afternoon sleep if he's dozing off naturally, and then only for an hour or so. Is he very bunged up from his cold? Some saline nose drops or a steamy atmosphere may help him breathe.

MandyD, if we've been out anywhere which meant ds was out of his bedtime routine, we just put him down at the usual time the next day, without any problem. Have you tried a few drops of Karvol on his bedlinen to help with his breathing?
