What did we do before television?

My dd (10) is literally obsessed with the tv it’s all she wants to do, on Saturday’s my dh works until 12, my dd had been up since 8 just watching tv so I turned it off when he got home she didn’t object (she knows I’m in charge) but all she did was whinge at me all day until 6 when I let her put it back on. Then she asked me if my mum was so mean and didn’t let me watch tv or be on my ipad when I was younger, she was horrified when I told her I didn’t have an iPad and asked me what the hell I did all day! I’m 30 born in 87, when I was born there were only 3 or 4 channels on tv (my god I feel old) obviously there were a lot more added in the 90’s but I don’t think I watched it much maybe the hour of cbbc that was on 4:30 - 5:30 but that was it, we didn’t have a computer until I was 12 but I wasn’t really interested in that either, even now I only watch in the evenings. I did get an iPad in 2011 when it came out but only because everyone else had one I try not to use it too much in front of dd. When I was younger I used to draw, knit, play out with friends, help my mum with the cooking. Anyway I guess what I’m asking is how much tv do you let your kids watch? What do you do with them (dd doesn’t want to do anything I suggest)?
