I have a 3 year old DD. At home she is chatty, bright and loud. She has an older brother, almost 6, and can hold her own with him.
Outside the house she has always been very shy. Even with family that we are regularly, it takes her 30 minutes to make eye contact. This is getting better, it used to be hours.
At nursery it took her 6 months to talk to the staff but now she is relatively chatty. She struggles to tell them she needs the toilet which worries me as she starts school in September (she's a late July baby).
She has always been very well behaved and rarely has to be properly disciplined (time outs etc). However recently she has had the odd incident of aggression/biting/rudeness. Nothing unusual and I'm not concerned about that.
The issue is her response. As soon as she realises she's been naughty, she freezes. She won't make eye contact, won't speak or will only say "I don't know". When she hit DH the other week she spent 45 minutes with her hands over her eyes (she actually fell asleep). This seems a bit odd to me, has anyone else's child done this and grown out of it?
It's also really difficult to discipline her because she won't discuss or acknowledge the behaviour. DS would cry and deny it and stomp about but usually then discuss the right way to behave and say sorry. I don't know what to do with DD.
