Am I just a rubbish mum or is this really hard?

DS is 2.7, has been interested in the toilet/potty for a while, likes to sit on both, loves to flush the loo - we have had 2 attempts at potty training and got nowhere. He just doesn't seem to get the idea that the potty is for performing in, and will sit on it, then say "finished" and a couple of minutes later fill his pull-up pants.
Am using pull-up nappies because I cannot face 3 or 4 pairs of shat pants per day (DS has very health ybowels ...)

ANy hints or should I just give up on it for the time being?

Give up for the time being.

Yep, I agree, he's obviously not ready. Give it another 6 months say. When he is ready he'll be dry within a couple of days.

give up for now, i had the same thing with ds1, gave up and he just suddenly 'got it' the week after his 3rd birthday

My dd2 was like this. Would sit on the potty but not do anything it was all just a game. I was starting to think that she'd never be potty trained then all of a sudden last week she announced that she was wearing big girl pants today and that's it she's trained. She still has accidents, more when she's tired and not paying attention, but she seems to have trained herself.

Try giving up for now and try again in a few weeks/months.

Thanks all, will stop worrying about if for the moment. I think I might stick to the pull-up nappies just so when he does get the urge to sit on the potty (as he likes to do) he can pull his pants down and maybe surprise himself...
