DD has just turned one and has had a heavy cold and cough since before Christmas. Would you assume it was just new nursery bugs - she started second week in Jan - and one cold after another, or would you take her to the doc?

Just looked at the calendar. It's actually almost 5 weeks.

I would accept it is how life is going to be for a while from now on. Two of my children seemed to have permanent colds, with perhaps a brief respite for 2 months in summer, for several years on the trot.

But if you are worried, definitely go to the doctor.

What paintspots said - dd had a six-month long cold when she started nursery until the summer and dnephew is going through the same thing. I have also had a cold and cough since before Christmas despite the fact I normally have a great immune system (well, three colds back to back, I'm 3 weeks in to the third one) and I have had quite enough of it!

Thank you both. We saw the doc just in case, who said what I suspected - it's just cold after cold. I felt really reassured and he was very thorough. And didn't make me feel like I was wasting his time. Better stock up on tissues and snuffle babe!

Oh and small I have also had a cold and cough since Xmas day. Ready for it to bog off now. Doc also said viruses are hanging around a lot longer than usual this season.

We are in week 6 of a cough and cold with our 13 month old. It's certainly persistent!

We are also in week 6! Took DD to the GP today and she said the same... Just bug after bug. Summer can't come soon enough!
