What did you not bother buying for second baby?

26 weeks with baby number 2, just wondering what everyone didn’t bother buying/using again for baby #2?

We haven’t bothered getting a baby bath this time, we ended up just using one of those sponge things to lay baby on in shallow water in the big bath, found this much easier.

Just wondering ...

Jumperoo. DC1 loved it, DC2 did not

Baby bath (used plastic support in our bath) , Moses basket (straight to cot) , proper outfits in newborn size (sleepsuits are warm and comfortable).

Baby #2 got new bottles and dummies. A few clothes. Nothing else needed.

Didn't bother with:

changing table or baby bath for either of my two.

DD2 had those baby sleeping bags which weren't around when DD1 was born and they were fab. I bought very little in the way of baby equipment and only really bought a steriliser and cot bed for each of them plus got a second hand pram from ebay.

They really don't need much. Somewhere to sleep and some way of being transported. A way to ensure all stuff they eat from is sterilised. That's it.

I used to change mine on a mat on the floor, would take them into the bath with me (had a baby bouncer seat and would wrap baby in a towel and put them in it while I got out the bath and dried off).

One of the most useful things was a little caddy which I kept all the wipes, lotions and potions in so top and tailing was quick and easy as it was all in one place. Cost about £3 if I remember rightly.

We also had one of those bouncer/chair things as well. DD never ONCE bounced herself or was even bothered by it lol. Won’t be bothering with one of those this time!

We've bought a new pram, car seat, breast pump and mattresses. Everything else we are re-using in terms of practical items. We're reusing the crib, bassinet, cot bed and furniture, baby support.

As we're expecting a boy and our first was a girl anything not pink in terms of toys and clothes are getting reused including the neutral bouncer, play mat and sit me up cosy as they're really not used for that long.

In terms of the pushchair we went for a Mams and Papas Armadillo with car seat adapters and skipped over the travel system as we never really used it last time so didnt want to waste the money. The car seat sits on the armadillo for the school run and lies flat for longer journeys.

Everyone uses these things differently we based all our choices on past experience and current needs.

I'm not having any more but if I did, I'd not bother with a bouncer chair. Or a cot. Or a toddler bed. All of which I did get for DS a d all were a complete waste of money. Wouldn't bother with a changing table either. The cats bagsied those before ds was born.

I didn’t buy anything for my second baby as I keep it all from my dd-don’t people do that now? There are 5 years between my 2. I still have most of it stored in the loft in case of grandchildren!

Saying that when I had dd I bought everything white-we didn’t find out the sex of either baby (now 20 and 15)

I used a support in our tub, changing mats upstairs and downstairs for easier, faster changing and DD2 went straight in the bedside crib and then to a cot bed.

SheSparkles- we have kept some stuff but never thought we’d be lucky enough to get pregnant so a lot of it went. Plus we are a military family so don’t have a lot of space to keep stuff if it’s not currently being used unfortunately.

My original post was more light hearted as to what you wouldn’t bother buying again rather than needing information as to what to buy if that makes sense.

I’m having another girl and already have DD1 who is 18 months so we’ve got everything!

I’ve bought 3 new outfits so baby has something new as I’m having another summer baby as well so have all the clothes, new membranes and pipes for my breast pump (how exciting ), and a toy for DD1 to give to baby.

I’m not buying anything else really and will probably spend our savings for baby on wipes and nappies.. poor second child!!!

Oh scratch that, I bought myself a nice Cath Kidson bag to use as a change bag, doesn’t really count tho does it?

Apologies Betty-sometimes I need to take a humour pill🙄. And congratulations on your pregnancy, especially if it’s not been straightforward to get pregnant.

I found with my 2nd I didn’t bother having as much angst as my first 😁

SheSparkles- hey no need to apologise m’dear! I’m hoping #2 is a little easier as well... first we went through every bottle/every sleep aid etc etc as DD had severe reflux/allergies.... the list of midnight Amazon prime desperate purchases was crazy!!

@Shmithecat your post made me laugh as we have a changing table which both our cats have established as their favourite place to nap

I'm expecting DS2 tomorrow and we are re using everything, (DS1 has just turned 1) the only thing we bought was an extra car seat and a double buggy. Things I wouldn't bother with are Moses basket -again this was used by the cats in the end not the baby, cot bed, dummies - our DS1 never took to them and cute little baby shoes, couldn't get them on the little feet and even if I managed to, they never stayed on!

Ah yes baby shoes! I forgot about those! Completely pointless!

Also baby socks.

Utterly pointless. Either put them in babygrows or would put tights on them under leggings so they can't pull them off.

And yes to outfits for under six months, waste of time. They grow so rapidly and spend half their time being changed into something clean because they sicked up or dribbled down themselves. Babygrows are fabulous. Warm, soft and comfy.

It's been a long time since I had mine, my girls are nearly 20 and 13 but spent time with a friend yesterday whose two youngest are 16 and 6 months old. OMG, I had forgotten how absolutely lush little ones are. So funny, so sweet and so squidgy!

We had a fancy baby monitor with the pad under the mattress with the 1st but never bothered using it with the second, literally just didn't bother to set it up. We didn't really use the Moses basket much either time if I'm honest, but I guess there was the odd occasion I tried to put them in there. I'd have got a next to me crib, but my husband said no both times (expensive if they didn't like it, his reasoning)!

Pretty much everything else was used again (except clothes, girl then boy). We had ours close together so everything was still pretty much brand new.
