4 yr old chewing clothing

Hi after some advice, my 4yr old is constantly chewing his sleeves and necks of his clothes. My mum feels that we should paint his clothes with bitter aloes (I think that's how you spell it) , '' because its been done for years and never did any harm'. However I would prefer to take a much more holistic approach rather than just punish the bad behavior. Any ideas?

My son did this because he was anxious at school (aged 5). He had good reason to be as he couldn't hear anything. Look for any underlying reasons before you call it 'bad behaviour'.

My son does this. You can get chewy jewelry (they do boy versions that are quite cool) - encourage him to chew on that instead.

And yes it's not "bad behaviour" as such, it is serving a purpose for him, whether that's sensory feedback or relief from anxiety. So best to provide something he can chew on to get the same effect, without ruining his clothes. And look into reasons for the behaviour.
