16 Week Old Outgrown

Hello

I’m in desperate need of advice because I have no idea what I am doing being a first time Mummy!!

My son is now 16 week old and is rapidly outgrowing his Moses basket! I don’t want to move him into his own room until he’s 6 months old due to it increasing the risk of SIDS.

I don’t want to move his cot from his bedroom as he does use it for playing, it’s also big and bulky!

What can I do?! I’ve thought about buying another cot for our room but it’s money I really don’t have right now!

What is the guidance on travel cots? What else can I do?!?

Help 😩

Put the cot in your room and get a travel cot for playing in if you need to.

Yes it’s annoying when your room is cluttered but it’s only for a short time.

Why can’t be play in the cot if it is in your room?

Often it looks like they're outgrowing it because they look huge in there but a lot of babies are fine for way way longer.

We've got a travel cot in our room with a proper mattress.

I would use a travel cot in your room. Added advantage of being able to take a familiar bed away with you. Also when he moves into his own room. You can use the travel cot in your living area as a safe happy place for him to play when you answer the door, phone, cool etc when he is moving.

If you keep his cot in his room. You can start to make the transition of putting him
There for naps etc.

If you are buying a travel cot and your baby is likely to be tall consider the sizes. Most mothercare. Graco etc are wider but shorter. Baby Dan and I think Hauck are 90 x 120. Same size as a standard cot and you can use for longer. And fit a normal cot mattress if you are using it a lot.

We put the cot in our room; it took up a lot of space but it’s made it easier to move her into her own room as she’s used to her cot and we aren’t trying to do a change of environment and bed at the same time

What was your plan for this, moses basket was never going to last until 6 months. Move the cot in for the few months, he can play in many other places or in the cot in your room?

We had the cot along the bottom of our bed once they outgrew the crib

Slept in the single bed in baby's room with him in the cot

He does technically fit into the moses basket lengthways still at 6mo, but likes to spread his arms out so wouldn't work

Like many of the posters above we moved the cot bed into our room. Barely any walking space but didn’t waste money on something else they will grow out of and I think it will make transitioning to their own room easier as they will already be familiar with the bed
