I want to cut my DS's hair using clippers - tips please?

As it says in the subject, I'd really like to cut my DS's hair - he has it quite short anyway and has two crowns, so he very quickly looks a mess if the hairdresser doesn't cut it short enough. Life's too short to book there anyway as they don't take children on the weekend. So, any recommendations on clippers/methods/anything else I need to know?

If you're planning on one length all over it is very easy. I wouldn't recommend trying to blend different lengths as that takes practise to make it not look crap.
Start with a longer grade than you think you'd need, it's easy to go shorter if needed! Go against the hair growth ie up from the neck and from the front hairline towards the crown. It's also a good idea to go back across in the opposite direction, particularly at the crown where you should repeatedly go over the same area in lots of directions to get it even.

I watch a couple of YouTube videos for guidance.

I also use scissors to finish the top so it doesn’t look too much like a buzz cut.
