What could this be?

My 10 week old has been passing a tiny amount of mucousy blood in his poo today (have seen it in two nappies so far) and would like to know if anyone else has had experience of this? he exc. bf and seems happy enough - was a little grizzly yesterday but I put this down to one of his grannies being heavy handed with her perfume . . . also my mum was a little heavy handed with the Metanium cream, could this be a cause?

I am seeing the HV tomorrow but would like to know if anyone can shed some light, please?

Many thanks

Thanks lmo - don't think so but he does tend to announce his bowel movements to the whole room so maybe he is trying too hard?

maybe.....even when ds was breastfed, i used to give him a little drink of water, diluted with freshly squeezed orange (think its a 1:10 ratio) on HV orders, and that really helped

He does have a rash on his face but again I put this down the perfume - it was really strong! I could smell it on me a few hours after I took DS from her. I hope the rash and blood are not linked in some way.

Maybe I could try that too? I will ask the HV. Thank you for answering, I haven't posted on your other thread but am aware of your situation - I'm thinking of you. Hope that doesn't make me sound like too much of a stalker!

i wouldnt have thought they were linked....like you said, its probably the perfume.....hope you get on ok. Let me know what the HV says tomorrow? thank you....i am trying to use MN to distract me a bit at the moment!!

I think Mumsnet is the best place in that case! nothing like some good distraction action . . .

I checked with the HV - she didn't seem to know much and was frankly little help at all. Yesterday there didn't appear to be any of blood but there was a trace again today. It is mucousy looking.

Daft question but if he is constipated then surely there would be no movement at all? he is passing a reasonable amount, maybe a little less than usual.

He has been sleeping a lot more in the last day - could that be related?

oh worry, worry, worry - can you tell he is my first yet?!

I would go to the doctors just to be sure. When Dd was about 3yrs she passed some blood and it turned out to be a small tear due to constipation. It's probably something simple but I would check anyway.

libb - ds has this when he was tiny - but the hospital was really worried as he had been in hospital for 3 weeks after birth with severe jaundice.

However!!! It was an anal fissure (a little cut inside of his bottom) and it cleared up quickly with metanium.

Do get it checked out though - I panicked like made but it was totally fine
