When can I give my baby water?

My daughter is just over 6 months & is eating solids quite regularly now. She's Breastfed, but every time I have a drink she really interested & try's to put it in her mouth. Am I able to give her small amounts of water yet? I'm just concerned it'll make her tummy full & she won't eat/drink milk.

@tired - is your baby breast or bottle fed? Bottle fed babies can have cooled boiled water before 6 months but I don't think it's advised unless it's especially hot or they're constipated. Breastfed babies shouldn't have extra water before 6 months. Either way giving too much water can be dangerous and you don't want to replace feeds with water. It's very normal to be waking at 5 months old for night feeds still.

I was under the impression when weaning if baby is breastfed you just give breast milk and the solids and if formula fed they have formula, solids and water

But I would if she wants it, I'm sure most people do

@StripyDeckchair thanks! I don't mind the night feeds is just on some occasions he has fed like an hour before but that's all that will settle him so was considering trying it. Will definitely hold off though as didn't know that! X
