At what age is it not ok for DD to see daddy's weener??

Our DD is 20m and very attached to her daddy at the moment, she has to go everywhere with him, even the loo - its either that or full blown tantrum. Never really gave it any thought until last night when we went for a walk and she started imitating daddy having a wee, was pullig the front of her trousers and making wee noises,so cute - we were hysterical. But seriously, that does show she has been noticing things so will probably stop her from going into loo with dad. I guess if she were a boy there would have been a lot of proud "thats my boy" being muttered but cos she is a girl.........

It's definitely not ok to call it a weener

can we have a consensus on that?

Hathor · 25/04/2007 20:32

What's a weener?

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 20:32

Well, obviously not, because some people have been doing it!

I'd spell it 'weiner' btw. And use it to mean a hot dog. Not a penis.

I think it is up to the child to decide when they feel uncomfortable with it really. At 20m I really wouldn't worry about it. DD is 5yo and has no quarms about being naked or seeing us naked.

FrannyandZooey · 25/04/2007 20:36

you can't call a penis the same name as a hot dog

please god no

rabbleraiser · 25/04/2007 20:37

It's the Adam and Eve thing. Small children have no problem with full nudity. I don't wear clothes in bed and nor does my dp. My ds is 2.5 and doesn't bat an eyelid.

Generally speaking, embarrassment about nudity comes at about 6/7 - when their emotional growth really begins.

No need to worry for years yet. It's normal, healthy and a sign of great, relaxed parenting.

They do look the same.

And are, by and large, food, to the same degree. (as in, I wouldn't eat either, really.)

Oh, Frances, there's a mad mad mad page about vinegar, spices, meat, drugs, and all that, linked to from here .

Hathor · 25/04/2007 20:40

Hee hee - read that as he was teaching the boys at boarding school how to pee right. Whoops.

Hulababy · 25/04/2007 20:42

Hathor - sorry, misspelt - qualm - no wories, no uneasiness, not disturbed by, etc.

mytwopenceworth · 25/04/2007 20:43

there is no right age or wrong age. there is only what you as a family are personally comfortable with, so other peoples comfort zones probably won't help you over much, iyswim.

rabbleraiser · 25/04/2007 20:43

NotQuite? Are you on the wrong thread, love?

FrannyandZooey · 25/04/2007 20:46

no she is being filthy about hotdogs

or something

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 20:47

Hotdogs and penises.

In North America, 'weiner' is a normal (if objectionable) term for penis. We don't say 'willy'.

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 20:49

Hmmm, I need to stay off the Tramp Juice. Tonight I have been being filthy about hot dogs, and contemplating why one would masturbate with a lobster tail. (Conclusion: one wouldn't. In case you were worried.)

FrannyandZooey · 25/04/2007 20:53

Ah I know that lobster one

I am old hand at urban legends

harpsichordcarrier · 25/04/2007 20:55

WEENER!!!!

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 20:56

I listed it as a 'favourite', and MrsB went and read it for the first time. (Someone had posted the ether/perfume one, saying 'this is shite, isn't it?') Poor MrsB.

FrannyandZooey · 25/04/2007 20:57

I told them HC! I did try to tell them!

harpsichordcarrier · 25/04/2007 20:57

dd1 is very keen to pee standing up.
I keep catching her doing it.
I have told her only boys can pee standing up.
she says "or girls with a penis!"
I says - "well girls don't have penises"
she says (indignantly) "well you do!"
I says "I DO NOT!!!"
she says "you do! show me!"
I says "I WILL NOT and anyway this conversation is now closed"
she mutters well I am going to check next time you are in the bath.

Hathor · 25/04/2007 20:59

Never heard the weener word.
Todger
Willy
Prick
yes
but never weener. Will not be able to eat a hot dog again.

FrannyandZooey · 25/04/2007 21:01

Ds mostly wants to wee sitting down
