One of my friends is having a baby imminently and we're putting a "baby box" together. Any suggestions for things people really wanted just after they'd given birth?

Drinks, seriously I was so thirsty and really didn't fancy squash and stale water sitting around in an old jug.

erm, oh and cake would have been nice and chocolates, and some ear plugs so i didn't have to listen to the farkin woman in the bed opposite, and an eye mask so i didn't have to watch and thus feel sick.

saltire · 25/04/2007 14:18

watch her and thus feel sick is what it should have said

wildwoman · 25/04/2007 14:18

One of my friends cooked a meal and brought it round, and then changed my bedsheets.
I love her.

wilwoman, god she was awful. She arrived in the evening after DS1 was born. About 2am I was woken by an auxiallary who said to me
"The woman across the bed is fast asleep and I can't waken her and her baby's crying". i just looked at the woman and said "well WTF do you want me to do about it?". Finally woke woman, who then decided th regale whole room with her birth story - she was 24, this was her 5th child, she lived in Buckie(or it could have been Macduff actually) and her husband was only this child's father etc etc. until 5am!
Then, she had a full big bottle of lucozade, a mulitpack of wotsits, a bar of choclate, a can of coke, half a pack of choc digestives. Then pressed the buzzer and told the nurse she needed a basin as she felt sick and must have got a bug from "having to share a room with all these women I don't know".
Every day was the same, she would sit and stuff her face with cr*p and then complain about feeling sick and could they take the baby to the nursery room as she needed a sleep and couldn't they take everyone else's babies while they were at it, because she couldn't sleep!
