My 2 year old dog has taken very ill, it started with a swelling on his foot and we've now been told he has kidney failure. The odds of him pulling through this and surviving are so low and I'm heart broken, when we have spoken to the vets they mentioned a disease called alabamma rot and my dogs symptoms are very siminlar to the symptoms of alabamma rot. I have asked my vets if it's something humans can be infected by and they coudnt really give me a define answer as there is not enough research found about this horrible disease! I'm so worried I'm 27 weeks pregnant and so scared I pick up the disease from my dog and I pass it to my baby! I'm in such a horrible position because I want to see my dog and spend with him as I know we don't have much time left but I also don't want to risk harming by baby! I've spoken to the Midwife's and doctors and they have never hurd of the disease before so there is no way of testing for an infection. When I see my dog I always wash my hands and am very carful with hand hygiene but I'm just scared that's not enough Sad

How truly awful for you. Sorry I have no advice but didn’t want you to go unanswered. Thanks

I'm sorry I have no advice either but just wanted to say how sorry I am.

Alabama Rot has recently, in the last few weeks, started affecting dogs in my area and it's such a worry.

I really hope that you can get an answer and that all will be okay with the baby.

According to this website it doesn't even seem to be contagious from dog to dog, let alone from dogs to humans vethelpdirect.com/vetblog/2016/01/07/do-i-need-to-worry-about-alabama-rot/

I couldn't find anything about Alabama Rot in humans - and I'm pretty sure we'd have heard about it. It's been around for a while now in the US.

I'm so sorry this has happened Sad
