How much warning before going

Am potty training my ds at the moment, he has just turned 3 (left it late as lots of life changes recently). He is fine with the idea and loves to wear his "big boy" pants. But, he seems incapable of recognising when he needs to go. I will see him doing the leg crossing and suggest he sits down, we read stories for 15 mins or so, nothing happens so I guess that maybe I was mistaken and he gets up, then 5 mins later I get the call '"Mummy, I'm leaking".
Am I expecting too much?

Don't worry, he'll learn. My ds was also quite late potty training, but within a fortnight he'd cracked it - all it takes is patience, oh and a lot of clean pants! Good luck

If you recognise his 'need', then how about telling him to go, rather than asking if he needs, for a couple of days? That's what we did, and by the end of the second day ds was going on his own - though he still needed help, and reminders for a few weeks.

pretty candles - I meant in my message that 5 mins after he gets off his potty he wets himself. I do tell him to go while he is on there.

I suppose we will get there eventually, just going through a lot of clothes at the moment

Debbiemum, my ds did this too. In the end I just let him run round the house with top and pants only. I would suggest that you carry on as you are for a couple of weeks and if he's still not sitting on the potty perhaps you could make a star chart, so many stars and he gets a treat, that sort of thing. Good luck.

thanks littlemissbossy. I was getting worried about medical conditions, hoped I was being silly and thanks for the reassurance that I was
