pocket nappies?

Hi. Are pocket nappies any good? I am using modern baby nappies at the mo but my baby who is 7 months is so wriggly and it's stressful at nappy changing time! I am wondering if a pocket nappy would be any better as it would just be one layer and I can stuff it before hand. I am also new to this and not be using nappies very long.

They can be good, but they don't suit everyone. Some use Fuzzis especially full time, others (like me) use pockets only on and off.

My fav pocket is my weenotions, followed by my bumbeano.

I used to keep some fuzzi's, mainly for when DS was with his grandparents or in my change bag as they are easier to put on. I bought just one to try though and to see how we got on. Will be getting some more when no2 arrives in August!

hi, i'm also thinking of getting some pockets for daytime use, how absorbant are they (my ds is quite a heavy wetter). i'm new to reusables and anm still using disposables at the mo, but have ordered some bamboozles for night times/naps. does anyone know weather wanadoos are good, was also looking at mommys touch. any advice?

I mostly use pockets because ds3 goes to creche 3 days a week, and is looked after by his grandparents also from time to time and as MIL refers to wraps as "nappies" I felt it was best to keep it simple! The other advantage is that they are nice and slim compared to a lot of nappy-wrap combos and will fit under clothes which are intended for disposable-wearing babies.. Janekirrage, I find the pockets are are absorbent as what you stuff them with, I am still using some of the bambino mio prefolds I got when ds3 was newborn to stuff fuzzi bunz or bumgenius and I find they rarely leak. I like the babykicks hemparoo insert as well, even if you use 3, the nappy still isn't very thick.

janekirrage · 22/04/2007 21:16

thanks chipmonkey, i've just looked up babykicks hemperoo's, do you find they take ages to dry?

chipmonkey · 22/04/2007 22:28

No, actually, they are quite thin so don't take long to dry at all.

janekirrage · 22/04/2007 22:32

do you hang dry or tumble?

chipmonkey · 22/04/2007 22:37

I try to hang dry but unfortunately in Ireland tumble drying often works out better!

janekirrage · 22/04/2007 22:45

thanks, i might try those then...(dont worry, its the same even down here in kent, thank god for tumble dryers!)

fairysnuff · 22/04/2007 22:57

I use fuzzi bunz.
I think they are fab and, as you say, neater than the rest.
They are as easy to put on as throwaways and v easy to dry. I don't have a tumble dryer so I have to have something that dries easy.

janekirrage · 22/04/2007 22:59

hi fairysnuff, do you use heperoo inserts aswell?

fairysnuff · 22/04/2007 23:09

No, I used wambamboo ones in her smaller fuzzi bunz and two were great together it lasted for ages!
But with her new large sized ones the wambamboo inserts seem really small??
Mainly I just use the inserts that came with them they seem good to me.
For night times when she was smaller I just popped in a muslin folde up but stopped a while back because it was not doing the trick. She didn't last to the morning.
I tried a wambamboo and wrap combo and it really did work! But the smell!!
I have just started a thread about it, maybe I am not hard core enough about my reusables or maybe DD is potent pee'r (sorry in TMI).
Sorry, I ama bit of a rambler!!
I think Fuzzi Bunz are great for daytime use!

We use fuzzis a bit. They are no good (for us) at night as we couldn't stuff them enough for 12 hours - too much stuffing made the fleece inside twist out and wick. We find them excellent for about 4-5 hours, so use them for car trips, long shopping expetitions etc. Also not very good for poo containment, so we only use them when poo is not imenent!
If you get some, I reccomend Hemp Fleece fabric from babeco.co.uk

Its £7 per metre so you get your money's worth. It doesn't need hemming, just wash it once to shrink it, then cut into squares or whatever to fold and stuff with.

fairysnuff · 22/04/2007 23:28

OOh! That sounds interesting!
How long does it last?
Does it make them nice and slim?

janekirrage · 22/04/2007 23:41

that does sound interesting, and much cheaper! thanks for the tip. what other nappies would you recomend if you dont rate fuzzi buns?

Flamesparrow · 23/04/2007 08:02

How long do fuzzis normally last with the insert it comes with? I have only just got mine and I am wary because it seems a very narrow insert for the shape of the nappy iyswim. I with the right shape pocket nappy I have used my kissaluvs inside em too for extra boosting

nappyzone · 23/04/2007 13:46

i dont find the insert it comes with that good - i use a green acre design microfibre in mine and my happyheinys and have good results. I am testing some drybees on my little one today as i have had good reports but very similar design to heinys though the prints are less cotton and more pul on the outer if you see what i mean! I use pockets all day on my little one withthe occasional bambenio thrown in for fun here and there but on the whole im a pocket addict as i love the funky designs!

nappyzone · 23/04/2007 13:47

i normally get on average 3½ to 4 hrs out of mine if that helps but i suppose it depends on your babe, i never push it to get more out of it.

Astrophe · 23/04/2007 13:54

If you can fold the hemp fleece to 6 layers thick it is still quite slim and will go for ages - we use 4-5 hours, but I expect you'd get more if your baby didn't poo as regularly as mine!

I bought my fuzzis before they came with the insert, so can't comment. If they are not that great, you could always use it together with, say, 3 layers of hemp.

Our fave day nappies which we use abou 90% of the time are Weenees Pouch pants. They are wonderfully trim, come in good colours too. They are sort of a cross between a profold and a pouch nappy, so inserts dry quickly. We use the same hemp fleece in them as we do in fuzzis, which is great as we haven't had to buy two sets of inserts/nappies, but have flexibilty with the fuzzis and weenees. Let me know if you have any Qs about them.
