Talk to me about Singapore!

We are from the UK and have lived down under for the last four years. We do fine with being away from our families but we live in a very English part of the world. We have a 1yo DD and I'm 4 months pregnant, and now DH has been offered a too-good-to-turn-down job in Singapore. It would mean us moving in a few months and me giving birth there.

Can anyone tell me about childbirth, nurseries etc in Singapore, or generally what life is like for an expat with a young family?

Fantastic, as long as your package is decent. Does it include housing (which is very expensive). The lifestyle is amazing, you can travel loads of gorgeous places in a heartbeat. The expat communities I know are very very strong. Many of the nicer apartments have pools and stuff. It's a great place for kids. I never lived there but DH did. I was in another Asian city for 8 yrs and always loved Singapore. I played a sport which brought me in contact with lots of people there and many of my friends moved there too.

Thanks Zigzag, that's good to hear. We're quite spoiled here for child-friendly stuff so it's great to know there's plenty to do there too. All I've seen of Singapore is the CBD so maybe it's less than a lifestyle change than I thought.

Just seen this. There was a thread on this before on the living abroad or expat part of the forum. The search function would, probably, unearth it.

We live in U.K. And Singapore. try and join the "Singapore expat wives" Facebook group. Lots of stuff there but not all good so more realistic picture.

Can't comment on childbirth as ours came along here.

I lived there briefly years ago. Excellent, great communities, facilities. As pp says, you need a good package. Easier to make friends because of the transience- people are more open to newcomers.
