Ditching the dummy!

I have a 19 month old son who uses a dummy for naps and every now and then overnight, but can fall asleep in Pram/car without it. Just wanted some advice on how to finally ditch the dummy and how to go about it or where to start? Many thanks 👶🏻👶🏻👶🏻

When we did it for my DD1 we decided to do it at Christmas time, just after her 2nd birthday. We told her a few times in the run up that Santa was going to take her dummies and leave her toys instead. On Christmas Eve she left him her dummies beside the mince pie and carrot. She cried for a wee while that night as she fell asleep but not again after. She did ask about it for a few days after but I just said that Santa took it and left lots of lovely toys and she seemed to accept it.

I now have a 15 month DD2 and wondering when the right time will be to take her off it.

Good luck!

We just did a couple of weeks ago with my 20 month old DS - same as yours, had it for naps and bed but could fall asleep without it. We just went cold turkey one night (a Friday, so we had the weekend!) and it was fine, about 3 days of difficult naps/bedtimes and since then he's been fine, haven't looked back.
