Hi - MillieJ this is the 3rd time I've tried to write - seem to have lost the last 2 messages when I posted them - don't know what I'm doing wrong - so forgive me for keeping this one short. There is no german/english group in leeds tomorrow - they are going to meet on 28th April instead. (I can't go but may try to go to the next one on 19th May - I haven't been to 1 yet

I would like to meet anyone in Harrogate/knaresborough area interested in english/german with children - my children are 4 and 2 and my husband is german and we find it really hard to keep the german going.

If anyone is interested in meeting for a coffee and seeing where we go from there let me know please!

Hi there

Good to hear from you! Can you let me know what time the Leeds group meets on 28th and where. That'd be great! Have you already been?

We have 2 girls: a 4 year old and 20 month old. We are both English, but I speak to the girls in German as we spent a long time in Germany and I really want to keep the language going. I studied German and am a translator. It is hard work so it'd be good to get together with other English/German families.

Whereabouts are you based? We are not from Otley and come to Harrogate sometimes for shopping.

Hi again

Well, we're going to go to the group on Saturday. Will let you know how it is!

When's a good time to meet up for you - an afternoon sometime or the weekend? Do you know a good place to meet up in Harrogate or wherever?

Hi Millie

Did you get to the group yesturday - how was it?

A Tuesday or Thursday afternoon is good to meet up - or the weekend is good too.

The big park in Harrogate - Valley Gardens - is really good - it has a playground and cafes etc - have you been? Or do you ever do swimming - the Hydro is good for swimming and has a cafe too and I don't take mine swimming as often as I should. Would you come in on the Skipton Road - both are quite close to where that road comes in.

I keep wondering about putting a note in the paper and trying to set up a German mums/children/families group in Harrogate area - but haven't got round to it - so it will be good to hear from you if the Leeds group is good and if you think its worth trying.

I could meet up 10th May pm or 12th or 13th (at the weekend we may or may not get hubby too - it will depend on the day and what he's got on - but I'm happy either way - so if you and family etc can do any of these - lets pick a day and we'll go for it.

I live near Knaresbourough - so Harrogate is quite close for me - if there is somewhere more in the middle you can think of - I'm happy to do that too.

Cheers

Jenny

Hi there

Good to hear from you and thanks for all the info on the group. Really appreciated that.

Well, we went on along and it was fun. Our 2 girls had a great time. The venue is good as there is a garden out the front and they did a (belated) Easter chocolate hunt at the end of the session. The kids were in 2 groups: the young ones played in one room. The parents had brought loads of old toys and books along. The 4-8 year olds went into a room and a German lady did songs and a bit of writing with them. They also watched a bit of a Pooh DVD.

There were mostly German parents there and the kids ranged from about 1 to 8 or so. There seemed to be quite a few who were school age.

We definitely will try and go regularly as it?s not too far for us. Unfortunately we probably can?t make the May or June dates.

The dates you mention are no good for us as I have a hen night and a 40th all happening that weekend. How about Tuesday 15th May or anytime on the weekend 26-27 May? We drive in on the Otley road. Valley Gardens would be great for meeting up.

That?s a good idea about a group in Harrogate. I heard from one other (German) mumsnetter when I was asking about groups in the area. Maybe it?s worth a go! We?d be keen. See thread on German/German speaking (in the Language/Bilingualism topic ? last post on 14 April (me!)

It may be easier to swap phone numbers/home e-mail addresses ? via the CAT thing. I have signed up for that to get other Mumsnetters? private e-mail addresses.

Anyway, hope to meet up soon! Auf Wiedersehen.
