When did you first leave your child with someone?

Other than partners.

I'm talking leaving for a few hours, or overnight with grandparents etc?

I am feeling a little overprotective (made to feel this way) for not allowing my DD to stay over at grandparents just yet, she's nearly 4 weeks old. She has spent a afternoon with them at roughly 2 weeks and that nearly broke me leaving her, was a lovely break but was long enough.

About two weeks with my MIL for a few hours.

She's now 11 weeks and I leave her with my mum all the time; she's in the best possible hands (even better than mine probably!)

For an hour or so at 4 months. It was more like 7 months before I was comfortable to leave her for an afternoon or a whole day at nursery or with my Mum. That’s after teaching them the routine and spending lots of time together with them first. I still wouldn’t want to leave her overnight and she’s 8 months now.
4 weeks is way too early I think.
Nice that you have people who want to help though :)

Really tricky one - I have tickets for the Harry Potter play in Jan (last year's Xmas pressie to the die hard fans in my family so it's a bit of a family outing) which I bought months before before our daughter was even conceived. As much as I want to go, I am hugely reluctant to leave her for two long evenings in a row at 8 weeks, even though both my mum and my sister have offered to forfeit their tickets and look after her. Because she's exclusively breastfed, it also means getting her used to a bottle of expressed milk, which we haven't tried yet...

Do it when u feel is right for you. Don’t be pressurized as it will only increase your anxiety and u won’t enjoy the time off. My LG is 5 months and I haven’t left her overnight yet. If the grand parents don’t like it, too bad!

I spent the first 14 nights of their lives away from my twins who were in special care. It was very hard but we all survived. I booked myself into a hotel for two nights when they were 12 weeks old. Dh and my parents looked after them. I didnt feel bad at all!

When my first DS was born 17 years ago, my maternity leave was only 4 months so I had to leave him when he was 3 & half months old to return to work full time... I hated it and ended up with very bad depression!
I asked my boss about going pt and she refused to even think about it.
I cried everyday on my way to work and then
ended up leaving when he was 11 months as I just couldn't cope with it (she then offered pt but I refused).
I became a SAHM and when our other DSs were born I didn't leave them for years. In fact, with my younger boys their first days away from me were at preschool and their first nights away from me were at Beaver Camp.

Every mum is different, just do what suits you and absolutely do not be pushed into anything different by others (including grandparents).

Pink - it is totally your call, if you feel uncomfortable, don't do it.

My mum and mum in law made sure they had my baby from about a month old, they would 'pop' over on different days in the week and send me to do shopping and have a break. Then at 3 months my husband and mum planned a mini break for me and husband for 2 nights, I left baby with mum. I hated it initially but had so many pictures and videos sent that I was fine. Have been leaving her overnight now and then ever since! I will always appreciate that initial help and support, it's not taking over, sometimes you need someone to step in and give you a break, even if you think you don't need it at the time. I'll only ever leave her with mum or mum in law, but she loves it and so do they! Who knows how to care for my baby better than the ones who raised us, I feel totally confident in them

Left her for an hour (max 2) from 2-3 weeks old with grandparents and expressed milk. My in laws also assumed I would be leaving her overnight from 4/5 weeks old despite me insisting I wouldn't be ready. Being ebf and no sign of me introducing formula, they (finally) gave up asking when she got to 2 months old.

She was 5 months before I left her for any longer and that was only once she was reliably going to bed and staying there - I would put her to sleep then head out and be back before she woke for a feed.

Progressed to whole days with grandparents from around 11 months and I'm still yet to leave her overnight (she's now 14 months). Contemplating trying over the Christmas period.

Dd is almost 3 and had her first sleepover a few weeks ago.

As for a few hrs, MIL had her under a couple of hours when I went for a hospital physio appt for diastasis recti about 6 weeks old. The odd appt after that the same but we didn't leave her for any length of time until I went back to work really at 9.5mths.

No way I would have left her at a few weeks old and never an overnight so young. But obviously lots do. I just couldn't have.

They are being completely unreasonable. It's normal not to let them out of your sight at that age.
