Sleepyhead from birth

We have been given a sleepyhead which I've heard great things about. I'm just not sure whether to use it from birth or whether I should wait and see whether baby is one of those mythical wonderful sleepers without it first. I don't want to cause a reliance on it if it was never necessary. What did you do?
I have a next2me and am also happy to bedshare as will be bf. Firstborn was a great sleeper til 4 months and even now at 4 years doesn't self settle (though I don't resent it; I love the bedtime cuddles and chat).

We bought ours at about 4 weeks when DD kept startling herself awake- the sides seemed to stop that reflex and her sleep improved hugely immediately. She sleeps in hers still in the next2me. We only use it at bedtime, never in daytime naps. We're getting close to moving her into her own bedroom so the plan next week is to try to get her to nap without it in her new cot and then start her sleeping in there...Id wait and see if the baby needs it or not. If they do, great youve got one. Otherwise dont worry about it.

We used it from birth and never regretted it. He naturally outgrew it when he wanted to move more as he got older but for the months we used it, it was extremely useful.

I don't actually know how he would have slept without it but we found it useful as a place to put him in the living room, on our bed, in his next to me, on a bed at my parents house etc etc. Like a portable mini cot.
