Parents of medium-sized boys...a question!

What is that 'boy' smell? What causes it? My son's room smells and I can't find the source of the smell. He baths or showers every day, his bed sheets get washed every week or so, he's a bit crap at putting dirty washing out but his worn clothes are a bit grubby rather than smelly, his doesn't keep sportswear/shoes in his room, so why does his room honk??

I know my DS (9) is not alone on this as other parents moan about the same thing, but can anyone offer any wisdom as to what this smell is and how I can banish it? I currently have his window wide open and have sprayed lots of febreeze!

BigYummy - I think I'd rather not know!

I’m not sure whether they really wash properly, i.e. plenty of shower gel under the arms and genitals plus loads of shampoo.

Plus I think there’s a bit of a musky hormonal smell too.

I don’t kmow how primary teachers stand it as the classrooms stink

picklemepopcorn · 19/11/2017 22:46

I think it’s hair. Have you checked his pillow? I bet that smells...

steppemum · 19/11/2017 22:47

to be honest, my ds (age 14) room mostly smells of lynx.

BigYummy - I reserve the right to shorten ALL mn titles as I wish. It is traditional to find a nn for any poster whose name is longer than 2 syllables.

Hate it when I miss comments that are then deleted! I'm intrigued to know what BigYummyMummy said!

Checked his pillow and it's not too bad. I still wash his hair for him as he wouldn't do it at all otherwise...maybe it could be washed a bit more often though (a couple of times a week at the moment). He doesn't smell...as I say he washes every day and regular changes of clothes. It's just his room that has this stale musty smell and no matter how often I open the window or spray the smell is still there!

BigYummyMummy comments related to umm, let's say a nightly occurance in boys more likely to occur AFTER puberty, and leaves a salty smell behind....

CoffeeChocolateWine · 20/11/2017 22:01

Oh. Yes, well I'm fairly certain it isn't that. As I said, his bedsheets get washed every week or so.

It's a mystery!
