DS has an inflatable willy, is this normal?

Just starting potty training my ds, 2.4.
Have noticed that when he does a wee, his willy inflates like a balloon on the end, presume it's from a backup of pressure when the wee is coming out really quickly to start off with! dh says his doesn't do this and MIL says it didn't when he was little either. Is this something we should worry about? It doesn't bother ds, he doesn't even notice but concerned that as he grows it might be a problem.
Has anyone else come across this?

my ds does this too, i just thought it was normal?!?

Maybe it is but I've never been around boys when they wee (no brothers/boy cousins etc)and wondered if it was just my ds!
I was worrying that it might mean the hole at the end of his willy might have been too small or something (there are no limits to the things I can worry about some days)

take him to the doctor, not serious, but foreskin might need a bit of a stretch!

my ds is 19 months and has weed on me more times than I can count but I've never noticed anything like this...

perhaps chat to doc or HV just to be sure...

My ds is like this. He's 4.5. He had a lot of problems with balanitis when he was much smaller- under 2- and the various doctors we saw said his foreskin was very tight and so he would be prone to infection.

As he's not had any problems now for at least a couple of years I'm going to assume it'll start to stretch by itself, but if it hadn't then he was going to be offered a circumcision.

As it is, I think we're just meant o tbe encouraging him to stretch it at bathtime.

I agree with others - take him to the GP just in case. The only problem would be he might be more susceptible ti infection, but other than that I don't think there's anything to worry about

My nephew has this too and he was told pretty much the same as bobsmum, except that as it was painful for him they have given SIL a cream to try to stretch the skin (put on 3 times a day) and another appt so if it has not helped then he will have a circumcision.

No one seems worried though. I would def pop to your docs as bobsmum said.

Tatat any update on this?

gegs73 · 05/06/2007 20:00

Could it be that the tip of his willy is stuck down abit before he starts to wee? DS1 does this quite alot and I'm sure this is the problem.

burek · 05/06/2007 20:03

like murty said, DS does this too and I too thought it was normal...
