Thoughts about respect

DH uses this word a lot but for some reason it makes me uncomfortable. He certainly didn’t used to behave in a respectful way to us yet expected it from DD. Now things have changed, very much for the better, but he has a tendency to go on a bit about respect. Is this old fashioned or is it the right approach to parenting? Of course, I believe that everyone should try to respect each other but is it a bit much to keep on to an 8 year old about it? Hope this makes sense

Does your DH understand that respect has to be earned and that he has to respect your DD in the same way he wants your DD to respect him (and presumably all other human beings?). Does he see it as a two way human interaction?

There’s no problem with the word respect. It’s used a lot in schools. There is however a problem if somebody is using ‘respect’ when they mean authority, control, order, discipline etc
