Hi everybody, the title says it really. We are thinking about making dd give up her dummy (uses it at bed-time only). What worked for you and your dc? Thanks....

We sent DD1's dummy to Father Xmas so she would get presents!!!! worked a treat!!! She was 2.5

How old is she? My ds stopped his by himself at around 7 months - very easy. My nephew was very dummy dependant and my sister took if off him when he went to pre school aged 3ish - explained he was a big boy etc etc and didn't need it at school. Worked ok for her. Good luck.

I told my dd that her dummy was going soon, not sure when but it would decide for itself, I said it told me it needed to go to the little girl up the road as she was sad and lonely.

I didnt' take it away for 2 days just kept reminding her. Then when I did take it away I told her that her dummy had warned her it was going at some point. She was totally fine about it and didn't blame me at allshe waves to the end of the road occasionally and tells me that dummy went to help a little girl.

I just told them they were big boys now and didn't need a dummy (just after 2nd bday) with no big fuss.

For DS2 this also meant he could go in a big bed not a cot so I said he didn't need a dummy in a big boy's bed.

we had the dummy fairy for both dd1 and ds. she took the dummies and left presents

I made a small cut in the base of dd's and she decided she didn't like it anymore...

Thanks! DD is almost 21 months. She just uses it at night and if she takes a midday-nap. I was thinking around 2nd b-day.

Our dd also only had her dummy at night and we told her (aged 2.5) that the dummy fairies came and took it away.
We also told her that they'd left her a present at the bottom of the garden.
Worked a treat. Reinforced it with 'You're a big girl now and big girls don't need a dummy'.
Good luck !

We collected all ds's nearly 3 put them in a box and pretended to take them to the hospital for all the new babies when dd arrived, she now 2.3, and we just thinking same thing for her but like the idea of the fairy as she loves them think will try that one. Just on an ironical note couldn't believe how many dummies we found when getting rid of them after constantly turning the house upside down when looking for one !
