I buy bundles of clothes off eBay for my kids as I can't be bothered to shop....

That's it really. Don't know whether it's a confession, or a boast (saving money ) or what. I just thought perhaps it is a little strange....

Basically I never have enough time to trail around the shops, and the kids hate it anyway. So I tend to find big bundles of things in good condition on eBay and then just bid quite a high price to make sure I get them.
I find that if find someone with the same taste as mine then it's a bit like having a personal shopper, and it all gets delivered straight to my door.

We then just chuck out or send to charity anything we don't really like, or is not in good condition.
Also I don't really care then whether the kids get really dirty or rip their clothes, as I don't feel as if I've spent loads of money.

One of my friends was quite shocked when I told her this.
Does this make me a bad parent??

Kif I've got a Spring 2003 dd and a shed load of clothes to get shot of. What age clothes are you looking for?

colditz · 12/04/2007 19:11

the FOR SALE saction need sorting into "Clothes and shoes", with subsections for sizes, and "not clothes and shoes" for everything else.

DaphneHarvey · 12/04/2007 19:18

Absolutely correct Colditz. With sub- sections for sizes AND sexes.

And maybe a tiny listing fee? Mumsnet could make money this way.

Where is Kif's new thread?

AitchTwoOh · 12/04/2007 19:35

i agree with the listing fee, would make everything more above board i feel.

Lovecat · 12/04/2007 19:42

I do the ebay thing all the time - I LOVE the bundles, it's not worth while (imho) to bid for single items, and not half as exciting when they arrive, either!

I really like your bundle, Frogs, it's the perfect age for dd... but I don't want to upset Tinker if I put in a bid for it!

Kif, can't find your thread, dd was born in February 05 - is that any good to you? We too like Monsoon, M&S etc (but are largely Next/George/Mothercare...)

Tinker · 12/04/2007 19:44

Oh, Lovecat, don't worry. I see there are 3 bids on it now. How dare they?

Lovecat · 12/04/2007 19:51

Oh, don't! I get irrationally outraged if someone else has the cheek to bid on something I want... has anyone identified the syndrome of 'e-bay rage' yet? (and if not, can I have lots of money for being the first to do so? )

Tinker · 12/04/2007 19:54

Oh yes, know about ebay rage. They're mine

AitchTwoOh · 12/04/2007 21:28

i've neer bought the bundles off ebay, but as i mentioned i love a second-hand bargain. every time i look at the bundles, though, they always seem to have a lot of pink and a lot of slogans. any tips on getting good stuff?

Lua · 12/04/2007 21:43

Tortoise - I need 2-3 year old boys! Do CAT me with what you have!

Kif - I have a 2005 boy and 2002 girl - Have loads of stuff! Let me know what you need.

tortoise · 12/04/2007 21:56

Lua picturetrail with all items on is here I hope you find something you like. Most items are just a pound plus postage.

Fauve · 12/04/2007 22:05

JanH, would your stuff go up to age 13 (a fairly chunky boy)? Anyone got stuff for a girl aged 10?

My feeling about all this is that it's Ethically Correct, on the grounds that it's recycling and re-using, not chucking into landfill.

Janh · 13/04/2007 10:03

Yes, Fauve, quite a bit of it is chunky 13-14!

I've sent a list to Norma to see if she wants to take any of it now and put it away for later - I will be out all day from around 11, but if you email me on holden_jan at hotmail dot com I will get back to you this evening

Quasi · 13/04/2007 10:07

DaphneHarvey, do you want to trade clothes? I have boys stuff age 4/5 and need girls stuff age 4-6. Fancy a swap?

twentypence · 13/04/2007 10:11

I loved the bundles I got for ds - sadly getting 4 year old boy bundles is now all but impossible because a single boy can go through at least one knee of every pair of trousers before they are grown out of.

dionnelorraine · 13/04/2007 10:32

I have just bought my dd a whole summer wardrobe load of clothes on ebay. i love getting the parcels. Its like opening presents!
Cost effective and time effective! what is there to complain about!!

Fauve · 13/04/2007 13:05

Thanks, JanH, will email you now. I'm offline this weekend, but should be able to get back to you on Monday evening. If you have other takers, that's fine, I can wait till yours grow a bit more

I tried going shopping with ds, but he was as clueless as I was, and full of reluctance! I'd much rather get nice parcels - I agree with other people, it's like opening presents (I know, I know, what a sad life I lead...)

persephonesnape · 13/04/2007 14:00

ooh! Fauve! i have ten year old girl stuff. i'll dig out some pics etc tonight for you. generally trousers, a few tops, a coupleof skirts... I'm at work just now, but i'll let you know later on.

RedtartanLass · 15/04/2007 21:03

Oh lost......

wanderingstar · 16/04/2007 15:20

I think it's a great idea ! I get the odd thing for ds3 (3). But I mainly sell his and ds2's stuff. He's 11, and either wrecks his clothes or barely wears them. The latter go on eBay. I've nothing on atm as just back from holiday, so look out Tortoise and NormaSnorks. I'll post on here when they go on, or would you like a list by email ?

I also have dd8 who may have some stuff I can put up.

I buy Boden, a bit of H&M, M&S, Quiksilver if pushed. But I'm anti logo at heart, and there'll be no girls' slogan T shirts or cropped tops for example.

lady007pink · 16/04/2007 19:28

Thanks for the idea! I don't have time to go shopping with DD2 aged 5 months, so this is ideal. When we were kids, I remember parcels arriving from our aunt in London full of secondhand clothes - such excitement!

NormaSnorks · 16/04/2007 19:32

Victory! Just won a lovely bundle of boys T-shirts..... great for the.... weather getting colder again

Only problem is we have a really snide postman who always gives me a strange look when he hands the parcel over and says "been e-Baying again?" Cheeky sod!
