I buy bundles of clothes off eBay for my kids as I can't be bothered to shop....

That's it really. Don't know whether it's a confession, or a boast (saving money ) or what. I just thought perhaps it is a little strange....

Basically I never have enough time to trail around the shops, and the kids hate it anyway. So I tend to find big bundles of things in good condition on eBay and then just bid quite a high price to make sure I get them.
I find that if find someone with the same taste as mine then it's a bit like having a personal shopper, and it all gets delivered straight to my door.

We then just chuck out or send to charity anything we don't really like, or is not in good condition.
Also I don't really care then whether the kids get really dirty or rip their clothes, as I don't feel as if I've spent loads of money.

One of my friends was quite shocked when I told her this.
Does this make me a bad parent??

nahh. i do it aswell.

frogs · 12/04/2007 14:49

Excellent! If you have a 2-3 yo girl, you can bid for my bundle !

NormaSnorks · 12/04/2007 14:49

When I mentioned it to my friend, she said, "But why? It's not like you're poor or anything!"

SHe didn't understand that it seems like a cost effective shoping service for me....

My dd has beautiful clothes from Ebay. Got a bundle once with Rachel Riley and Monsoon stuff in. Thought it was the biggest bargain ever.

NormaSnorks · 12/04/2007 14:51

Sorry Frogs - boys 5 & 8-9 !

One day I hope to get into a 'serious ebay relationship' with someone whose kids are 2 years older than mine, and simply buy all their stuff before they even list it

I just scrounge off third hand clothes off friends who buy their stuff second hand off ebay does this make me a bottom feeding scum sucker (or whatever that fish is called)?

NormaSnorks · 12/04/2007 14:52

What age do you think kids (boys) will begin to care do you think? No sign of mine doing so at the moment....

Oh, and another advantage - if they have loads of clothes in summer I'm not having to wash all the time...

I have some boys' stuff too! [hopeful, trying to please emoticon]

Tinker · 12/04/2007 15:02

frogs - I've been watching your bundle since you first posted the link

suejonez · 12/04/2007 15:04

NormaSnorks · 12/04/2007 15:04

I am lucky. I have a friend's sister who gives me bundles for free. So that is DD sorted.

AitchTwoOh · 12/04/2007 15:05

try the nct sales as well, i get dd's 'seasonal wardrobes' from them...

frogs · 12/04/2007 15:07

Not that I'm desperate or anything, Tinker! We're moving house, so I'm trying frantically to get rid of everything that isn't actually essential.

suejonez · 12/04/2007 15:07

I'm scared of the nct sales - have heard they're a real scrum.

NormaSnorks · 12/04/2007 15:08

Anyone with a boy aged 10

  • wears his clothes only 'gently'
  • clothes from Next, Debenhams, M&S, H&M, Quiksilver, Boden
  • without skulls or daft slogans

and wants to be my 'clothes friend' ??

I did last year for DD and it was wonderful.
She did a little fashion parade for us and got some beautiful dresses.

Tinker · 12/04/2007 15:09

It's ok frogs, just I want them and no-one else to see them

suzywong · 12/04/2007 15:09

I did that a couple of times too when we moved to Oz
it was a seasonal thing, there were no suitable seasonal hand me downs to pass on to ds2. Got some great stuff and all

frogs · 12/04/2007 15:14

Are you the bidder, Tinker?

Tinker · 12/04/2007 15:15

Not yet

frogs · 12/04/2007 15:17

Ah. [hopeful emoticon]

Plain white Boden T-shirt , Norma?

AitchTwoOh · 12/04/2007 15:24

volunteer to 'help' with the unpacking the night before, suejonez...
much more fun, much less fraught and fewer of those pesky children around.

god yes, i do this a lot. the girls think of it like xmas when big bundles arrive and sulk if they arent in their sizes. dd1+2 are the same size so cant pass stuff down between them.
