I still haven't taken ds and he's 3. Is it time to go? I'm thinking probably but I haven't been faffed to organise it yet.

I took my DS from 18 months whenever his big sis went. He still refuses to open his mouth and he's 3

MascaraOHara · 12/04/2007 13:18

Used to take her with me from a baby, I can't remember when I asked dentist exactly when she should start having her own but I think it was probably aroun 2.5yrs She's had 3 check ups now and she's 4.

The first one is literally count the teeth have a quick shufty.

DD is like me and loves going to the dentist though!

DS has been at least three times - he's 2
I tend to book him in when I go

Mine have been since they were babies and first had teeth.

ILoveDolly · 12/04/2007 13:23

i was waiting until dd could understand the command 'open your mouth'

DebitheScot · 12/04/2007 13:24

mine is going next week with us. He'll be 1yr (minus 2 days). The receptionist said the dentist will just have a quick look but won't do anything.

I hate hate hate hate going. Luckily my dentist is lovely and knows I hate it and helps me feels a bit better

It is recommended they have their first check up around 2. However it is a good idea to take them with you from birth when you have your check-ups so it is a slightly familiar place. Unless you have any concerns about their teeth or they have an accident and damage them, there isno benefitgoing earlier than 2.

oops

EllieKthePA · 12/04/2007 13:29

i've tried to take my ds lots of times but she refused to see him until after his 3rd birthday, and then it was only because i insisted

DumbledoresGirl · 12/04/2007 13:37

I always took mine with me when I went to the dentist and they would get a quick look in the mouth then, without too much ceremony. That gradually graduated into them having proper appointments themselves and now they go at a different time to me. So mine have seen the dentist pretty much from whenever they first had teeth and could open their mouth on demand.

mankyscotslass · 12/04/2007 13:43

they have all gone with me whenever i have had an app, and now thw two eldest get proper checkups when i do, and the baby gets put on my knee and the dentist tries to have a look...so i suppose probably from 6 mths, as i had my check up 6 mths after ds born....

LilyLoo · 12/04/2007 13:45

Have taken dd 2.3 three times and she is still yet to open her mouth

LIZS · 12/04/2007 14:00

Took them along when we had appointments so dentist had first look at around at the first one after they got teeth - ds was 5 months, dd might have been nearer 1. They had their own proper appointments once they got to 2/3.
