how do you get him to poo in the potty or toilet?
DS is 2 years 8 months. Am into day 6 of potty training. Using cotton pants during the day, so far progress is not bad with just the occasional accident. Some days have been accident free. Only problem is DS does not tell me when he needs to go. I have to regularly remind him. Anyone experienced this and how long did it take before they used potty after requesting to use it? I am also wondering when he is going to start pooing in the potty or toilet? He does his poos in the nappy at night time or morning before I get to change him into his pants although he has not done one for a couple of days. Don't want him to start suffering from constipation. Thanks for any advice offered.

Hi, my DD starting saying she had to use the toilet after about 2, maybe 3, weeks of potty training. I started about 8 weeks ago and she still has the occasional accident with poo... No idea why this is but it seems to be common among those recently potty trained... The first few weeks, she would only poo maybe twice a week!

I am on day 6 of potty training also(fourth attempt) and yesterday he asked to go. DS was 3 on Saturday and decided himself he didn't want nappies anymore - "when I am 3 I will use the toilet". I agree with Pruni they get it when they get it. This was his choice this time, thus it appears to be somewhat easier than the last previous horrific experiences of training. He also said this morning when he woke up he didn't like wearing a nappy! However, poos just aren't controllable (he has allergies so lets just say even though he eats all allergy friendly food his poos are a little on the loose side!) so they might take longer to control. Also interestingly he is getting a little miffed at being asked every 20 mintues if he needs to go, and now just goes when he is ready (whether asked/accident/sitting on potty himself/bush) My personal belief after much experience is that they will do it in their own time and in their own individual ways. There really is no actual plan IYSWIM. Sounds like he is doing great in comparison to my ds at that age. If he seems happy to keep going, keep going! x
