3mo only on 4 feeds a day

DS is 3 months old & for the past couple of weeks he has been waking up later in the mornings, between 8:30 & 9:00. He has a 7oz bottle every 4 hours, so say at 9am, 1pm, 5pm & 9pm. To fit in 5 feeds I'd have to give him a bottle at 1am as well, but he's sleeping through so I've dropped this 1! He doesn't wake in the night crying for it & sleeps right through til like 8:30 or 9:00, so he doesn't seem to need the 5th bottle & I don't really want to wake him up for it.
Does this seem ok though? It means he's now only having 28oz in 24 hours, whereas before he was having more like 32oz. Also, based on the formula rule of his weight x 2.5oz, he's not really having as much as he should be within 24 hours.
Should I just go with it? He seems to know what he wants to do, I just don't know if it sounds ok or not!

Hi, I'm not an expert on this but read a great book recently called My Child Won't Eat, on this kind of thing - basically what he says is kids know how much they need and it tends to be far less than adults think! Good luck.

Is he gaining weight? What does your health visitor say?

I’d keep an eye on his weight, maybe get him weighed every couple of weeks and if that’s fine then just go with it.
Next week he might decide he’s really hungry and up it.

My DD is 5 months and has been on 4 bottles a day since she was about 3 months as well maybe younger in fact! I was also worried and asked HV if I should keep her up later to fit in an extra feed and she looked at me like I was mad Grin for a while she was having 4 7oz bottles but now it's more like 9oz, 7oz, 7oz then 5/6oz. She was only 5lb 4oz at birth so still small for her age but gaining consistently. Maybe ask the HV to come out and weigh your baby and see if he's steadily gaining. I've mentioned to mine a couple of times that I worry she's not feeding enough and she had no concerns at all.

Thanks for the replies! He's not been weighed for a few weeks so I'll take him this week & see what he is now.
I know I should just be grateful that he's such a good sleeper, but I can't help worrying that he's suddenly dropped a bottle & is having less over a 24 hour period than he was a few weeks ago - I thought he'd eat more as he got older, not less?!
He'll probably change again next week & be doing something completely different Confused
People have advised me not to wake him in the night for the extra feed, seeing as the aim is to get him sleeping through & that's what he's doing. He'd definitely wake up crying if he was hungry, wouldn't he?
I could maybe try waking him up earlier to fit the extra feed in? Just seems a bit daft to do so when he seems happy doing what he's doing for now, but obviously I don't want to under-feed him!
I've tried upping the 4 bottles to 8oz each but he rarely takes the extra ounce. Also tried feeding every 3 hours rather than 4, but he isn't hungry for it so seems pointless.
I've not seen HV for ages but I'll make contact & see what she thinks.
