My almost 5mo developed silent reflux at 3 wo. The doctor has advised we try and drop the Omeprazole he takes to check whether he will has reflux.

When did other people's babies grow out of reflux and how did you drop the medicine?

Thanks

Claire

Hello

I think it would be worth a try, you could always restart omeprazole if the reflux hasn’t stopped.

My DS had severe reflux as a newborn, took rinitidine and gaviscon as a baby. He continued with omeprazole until the age of 7 when tests were done to see if he still had reflux and still needed omeprazole. He didn’t.

I personally wonder how many years my son was taking omeprazole unnecessarily, although am in no doubt whatsoever about him needing it in the early years.

Hope this helps.

Both DDs had reflux. DD1 was happy on ranitidine but DD2 had omeprazole. She was on it until about 8 months. I very gradually reduced the dose rather than stopping it suddenly, and just observed symptoms.
