Have I put my baby off breastfeeding??

Hi, I took my 14-month dd to a drop-in breastfeeding group today as still feeding to sleep and am having latch issues. She is fully day weaned but I usually still feed to sleep and feed through the night. The lady asked me to see if dd would latch on so they could see what was going on and when we tried (in a different hold) my dd just looked confused and refused. She eventually dropped off for a nap. So, apart from that, a fairly uneventful day. Cut to bed time tonight, dd was hysterical for no apparent reason (dh took her upstairs and I followed) and when I tried to feed her, she got worse! Dh got her up again and she sat happily playing and when we tried bedtime again, the same happened and she got hysterical and refused to feed again. Does she now associate my boob or feeding with something wrong? Last night and this morning she couldn't get enough but tonight she's refusing point blank. I suspect I'm reading too much into it but she has never refused boob at bedtime before. It's the only way she'll go down!

well - on the positive side - at 14 months wouldn't it be nice if she went to sleep without it?

One day my son at about a year old just stopped BF that was that.

It does sound though like a one off I wouldn't worry.

but she will go to sleep without a boob - you just have to let her do it! She will get tired enough in the end with cuddles /dimmed lights/ cuddly toys etc ...

Waterrat, yes I suppose it would but I feel a bit sad about my little girl growing up and not needing her mummy anymore! Wink She doesn't usually fall asleep without it. It's the only way I can usually get her down!!!

My DS has occasionally skipped feeds - I don't offer but also don't refuse if he asks for it. Usually by the next day he's back to his usual routine.

It doesn't sound like anything traumatic happened at the BF group to put her off - do you think her latch has maybe changed with teeth coming through? Maybe she's sore & that's putting her off feeding?

I thought you were saying 14 weeks old! At 14 months could be anything really but if you were looking to get her to sleep without feeding, now is a good time to start

She has a bad latch which I didn't notice until her teeth came through and now my poor nipples are shredded!!! Which is why I was attending the drop in group. She's never refused it before and she's usually jumping on me at bedtime. Maybe I just confused her.

Aw no poor you OP, i thought I was done with lansinoh until recently so I can sympathise! I would try not to worry too much, go with the flow and see what happens tonight? I've heard of LOs going on a nursing strike for a week or two but we've never experienced it.
