Chinese water torture - whingeing ds

Would this pasta jar thing work for a 3 year old who has developed chinese water torture levels of whingeing please? Is there an old thread explaining it if so? He is being very high maintenance at the moment while his sister is a joy and gets all the attention - bit of a vicious circle going on.

Petitfilou - It has to be worth a try! I found it worked a treat with my 3 and 4 year old dds, they now chant "Pasta in for good behaviour Pasta out for bad". I just got to the stage that I was yelling far too much so was looking for a new approach.

Singapore Can you tell me in brief how it works - I've seen mention of it on here before but not really taken enough notice!

I sat down and had a chat with my two saying that I was not going to shout anymore and that from now on we would work on a reward system. Good behaviour and doing as they were asked when they were asked would mean pasta would go into their jars. Bad beahiour of any sort would mean pasta goes out of the jars. When they filled their jars it would mean a special treat. Movies, bar of chocolate, dvd and a pizza. Whatever constitues a treat in your book. We also sat for any afternoon when they decorated their own pasta jars, which was a big hit. I used two cheap tuppawear containers with lids! We started off with about ten pieces of pasta in each but on the very first night DD1 bit her sister!!!!!! So her jar was emptied at once, she was devastated but it made the point better than I ever could have. So each time you are pleased and praise them you can give the added reward and add some pasta to their jar and when you need a consequence for behaviour that you are not so thrilled with pasta comes out! Mine caught on pretty quickly and we had their cousins come and stay for a month and they ended up with a jar each too!
