A few months ago DD1 wrote a poem at school, which was then published onto the schools website.

The school then submitted this poem into the "Young Writers" Poetry competition - must admit I forgot all about it (although I remember signing permission form).

This morning, received a letter to say that said poem gained a "Distinction" in the Competition which had over 67,000 entries from all around the UK. They are now publishing the poem in the Young Writers Anthology

DD1 doesn't know yet as she's at school but she's going to be over the moon

Wow! Well done. How old is your dd? Was she over the moon? How did you give her the news?

Poets are a rare bread these days. Congratulations.

Thanks for your Congrats

She's 8.5yo, just finishing Year 3. I didn't tell her, I just handed her the letter and Certificate in the playground. Her little face lit up and she went running back into the classroom to show her teacher

At lunchtime yesterday I went to collect my youngest from nursery - and two of the staff there looked after DD1 (one was her keyworker) so I showed them. Keyworker was over the moon and has suggested to the owner that DD1 should be mentioned in the next Newsletter.

Congratulations to your DD Slinky

The poem was entitled "A Winter's Day".

She was particularly congratulated on "her expressions of imagination, perception, use of language interpretation of poetry".
