School friendship advice needed!

I'm feeling so sad for my 7 year old boy. He's so sweet and kind. I thought that he was getting on ok at school and the other kids all seem to like him. He doesn't get invited to play dates but he doesn't seem to mind and never asks about it. He's pretty happy in general. However, something has come up at school. He sits on a table with 6 other boys. One of them is having a birthday party and my boy is the only boy on the table not invited :( I don't know what to say to him about it or how to make him not feel isolated and left out. I'm thinking of asking his teacher to move him onto a different table to make it maybe easier for him. Does anyone have any advice on what I can say to him as to why this sort of thing happens? Thanks so much

Firstly, are you certain that DS is the only boy on that table not invited? Also, it doesn't mean that he's the only boy in the class not invited...and sharing a table doesn't automatically mean you're best mates either. How often do they change the tables about?

Has DS mentioned who he plays with? Have you tried to ask any of the children he mentions over to yours to play?
