Scratching 😩

Please can some Mummy’s or Daddy’s out there help out a very stressed Mama! My little boy is 14 weeks old and is going through a phase of scratching his face in his sleep, he is scratching that much he is leaving marks on his face, I have put scratch mits on him but he is like Houdini and he can never keep them on, I find them all over his cot, and even the built in ones he manages to poke his fingers out and give his face a good scratch! I am worried and stressed as I am trying to do everything I can to prevent him doing it anymore but I am at my wits end now as he is making a mess of his beautiful face. Please can someone help a worried Mama 😢

Don't worry these stages seem to pass.

I used to buy these amazing sleep suits with little built in mits that obviously didn't come off. I used them for quite a while.

I think JL did them and also Matalan from the top of my head.

I see you are already using the built in ones.

Maybe do a little shop and see which have the tightest mitten

Thanks for the advice. I’m hoping this phase will pass soon, I’ve tried all different types of mits as well and he just doesn’t keep them on, it’s making me feel like an awful Mama as he keeps scratching his face, and it’s only in his sleep! Thanks for the advice 😊

I'm assuming you're cutting his nails so maybe cut a bit closer or finish with a file so the edges are smoother? I had to do that with mine twice a day in the early days, his nails seemed to grow like wolverine!

Have you tried putting socks on his hands, they have better elastic and will come further up his arms to make it difficult to get them off

My son used to do this. Get one of those baby nail file things from boots or mother care and file the nails and keep it as short as possible. Kind of make nail ends smooth so it's doesn't scratch. Used to do it when he was asleep. Other than that mitts and socks on top of mitts. We used to still end up in a scratch or two.

Thanks everyone! I hadn’t thought about putting socks on his hands so will definitely try that tonight! I have been filing his nails and still ending up in scratches!
