Sleeping newborn

I'm gonna start with I'm not complaining, my 3 week old sleeps 5 hour stretches at night and naps well in the day, she feeds well and has some truly lovely burps which are completely adorable.

When she was first born I was adamant, no dummies! I would spend hours quietly rocking her to sleep then one very "windy" night I gave In and gave her one to soothe.

Well now I can settle her untill she snooze then put her down with a dummy if she wants it (she doesn't always) and she sleeps happily

However sometimes she's restless loses the dummy wakes herself up to get it back and then settles again.

I never put her down when she's crying has wind or is hungry she's always satisfied and sleepy but I'm worried im a bit trigger happy with the dummy coz shes quiet theb even if shes not asleep shes full dry and sleepy, should spend more time holding her?

I just want her to be happy and healthy and possibly get half hours more sleep but don't feel like I deserve it if I'm doing the wrong thing.

What's her weight gain like? If she's on track then don't worry. A baby will soon let you know if they want picked up.

I’d enjoy this time and if it feels right to you go with it because babies go through phases and you may find that next week she wants to be held constantly and cries when not held.

She was 8.8lb when born she's now 9.10lb and gaining steadily.

Sounds great to me. I have a 6 week old and a 2.7 year old. How did you get little one to take dummy? Was it immediate?

Monstamio · 27/09/2017 19:22

Sounds like you're doing brilliantly. What works for one baby will be different for another. Neither of mine took a dummy but my second is a thumb sucker (the first it was boob or nothing!). So long as she's gaining weight and no other concerns then carry on as you are Smile. Everything might change in a week or so (or not). You just have to go with the flow.

She has been fed expressed breast milk from a bottle from day 3 so was already used to the shape of a dummy she didn't like it at first but one night she was so upset and angry she took it without question. She dosent always want it but will fall asleep on the bottle sometimes abd then she will. Xx

Thanks dotty

That's ok xx

Defiantly not immidiate she will take it sometimes and not others.

I think if she needs something else she will spit it out and demand burping/changing/feeding/cuddles through the medium of screaming!!
