Anyone else forget to make baby bottles 30 mins after kettle boils?

is it just me???
I boil the kettle, completely forget and fly past the 30 mins when the water is at 70 deg for baby bottle making, I then have to pour the water away, refill, boil again and......
WAIT ANOTHER 30 MINS!!! its driving me insane!!!
sometimes I do this 2 or 3 times before I remember.
Baby brain, me thinks???

Buy a perfect prep machine- best thing I ever bought.

Makes bottles in 2 minutes- no boiling and waiting. Easy peasy.

Have you got a timer or a reminder you could put on your phone?

lol fret not. Buy a timer and a flask. Guidelines say once boiled the water should be left to cook for no less than 10 mins but no more than 30. We boil the kettle, set timer for 10 mins then fill flask. The water in the flask is at right temp to use for about 6 hrs but I refill every 5 to be safe. X

Yes. I just use the cool boiled water and serve them at room temperature.

Luxembourgmama I think the reason you need it to be a certain temperature is to sterilise the formula. I'm willing to be corrected but I think using cooled water risks making your baby poorly.

I'd just flick the kettle back on for 30 seconds or so until it was almost boiling and then let it cool for a bit.

I got a digital kettle that I set to heat the water to 70 degrees. Pricier than a bog standard kettle but cheaper than a perfect prep.

Now my DC is over 6 months old I dissolve the powder in the hot water from the kettle and then top it up with tap water to cool it down. Can make a bottle up in seconds that way.

It's a long time ago for me, but I used to set the oven timer to remind me when 30 minutes was up.

My method for a perfect 6oz bottle ready in a jiffy:

Fill a bottle at beginning of the day with 4oz boiled water and let cool (make multiples of these).

When time for bottle, fill another bottle with 2oz of boiled water and pour in powder and mix (this sterilises the powder) then pour in the pre-cooled 4oz. Ready in a jiffy! Meant I took 2 bottles and a pot of powder around with me every day for each feed though.

Never heard of that before, why not boil the kettle and make the bottle straight away, shove in cold water or the fridge to quickly cool to room temperature.

You can get digital variable temperature kettles for about £30 -40 btw, I figured I would probably save that in electricity faffing around reheating kettles all the time and it has been more than worth the money in time saved.

In a few years time when digital kettles are standard people are going to look back in amazement that people faffed around with boiling kettles and leaving for 30 mins etc.

And unlike a perfect prep the kettle is still useful after you stop making bottles!

I combo feed my DD and use water that's just boiled straight from the kettle and then put in the fridge to cool; she hasn't been sick or ill and it means the water is definitely sterilised as it's just been boiled, just need to make sure it's cool enough to give to her once made!

Cold boiled water will not sterilise formula. Water has to be over 70 degrees when the f hits it. A litre of water might cool to below 70 if it's left for more than 30 minutes. 30 minutes is the maximum it should be left for.

The wording on the formula (at least on hipp organic) is 'leave to cool for no longer than 30 minutes'. So I've always added it straight away. It just needs to be over 70c to sterilize formula but doesnt matter if it's hotter?

Luxembourgmama Boiling the water sterilises the water, yes, but that's not the point. You need to add the boiling water to the powder, to sterilise the powder.

OP just get a perfect prep!

No more than 30 minutes as the water would be too cool to sterilise the formula.

Boil kettle, make cup of tea, drink tea (takes approx 10-15 mins) make bottle. Sorted.

Or get a perfect prep.

I just used to make up the bottles with freshly boiled water and then cool in a bowl of ice.

There is no way on earth my ds would have allowed me to forget. When his bottles was due he would scream until it was in his mouth. We got a perfect prep machine when he was 2 weeks old as I couldn't cope with the screaming anymore. Best money we ever spent (although now he just screams about something else )

Sorry, never used formula, but can't you use the boiling water straight away to make the formula then just leave the bottle to cool?

I'm amazed you manage to forget OP. Don't you have a hungry screamy baby to serve as a reminder? There's no way my two would have waited an hour for their milk (2x 30min waits) even as older babies.
We used the perfect prep when home, and either the same method as the PP using a kettle/cold tap water when out (once over 6mo) or ready-made formula. Otherwise as mentioned above, you just make it with the freshly boiled water and flash-chill, no need to wait for 30mins before making up the bottle

Perfect Prep has been a life saver for me as somehow I ALWAYS forgot about the boiled kettle when DD was younger and I'd go from almost having a bottle prepared on-time to having a screaming unhappy baby that had to wait longer for their milk lol
