Stopping BF due to medication

I'm very sadly having to stop BF due to high blood pressure and medication.
I've breast fed for 6 weeks
I'm gutted to stop but if been assured it's for my health.

So how do I stop??
Any help gratefully received please

You don't need to stop breastfeeding if you don't want to! You can check to see if your medication is safe here:

If your bp medicine is contraindicated then ask to be put on one that is safe to use when breastfeeding. I can't understand why your GP hadn't done this already.

just stop, don't pump or drain off any milk.
wearing a tight fitting bra day and night will help.
it doesn't take long for the production to decrease.
cold compress might be comforting.

Wendy at the breastfeeding and drugs network is amazing. There's actually very few medications you really can't bf on and there's often other options for those that you can't.

If you don't want to stop deff get in touch with her (she'll even contact your dr if need be) if you really do need to stop I'd recommend contacting la leche league. They'll be able to support you stopping without giving yourself mastitis or anything nasty like that

It is highly unlikely that you need to stop breastfeeding because you are going on an anti hypertensive drug. Many women are on BP drugs post-birth and still BF. Which drug does your doctor want to put you on? http://www.gpnotebook.co.uk/simplepage.cfm?ID=x20101023135551623798]]

First Beta blockers which aren't safe or Rampiril
He was very good he did go through lots of options but couldn't find one

One of those drugs was mentioned but would have an affect on my asthma

With my first son my GP told me I couldn't breast feed on the beta blockers I was on.

With my second son my Cardiologist told me my GP had been wrong to say that and my beta blockers are perfectly safe to BF with.

Use the links and contact details that have been posted above and trust what they say as opposed to your GP.

Calcium channel blockers are generally ok to use if you have asthma. Nifedipine which is a calcium channel blocker is safe to use whilst breastfeeding.

Wendy has replied with some options and I'm talking to my doctor after 10.
