We've finally ditched the dummies!!

Yesterday I bit the bullet and ditched the dummies! My twins have been very reliant on them but are turning 3 in a month so it was finally time they went. We talked all day about them being given to the fairies, who would give them to the babies and leave presents in return. We had a fairly difficult night with the girls continuously coming down for cuddles and to check if the fairies had come out of their door yet! DT1 finally fell asleep on me on the sofa (I got fed up of going upstairs) at 10:15 and DT2 eventually fell asleep in her bed at around 11pm. They cried and asked for their dummies a few times, said they wanted to be babies and not big girls but we both stuck to it, read them about 6 stories and gave hundreds of cuddles and kisses! As expected, we were all very tired this morning, but the word dummy wasn't even mentioned once!! I've absolutely dreaded this milestone but proud of all of us so far. DH and I worked really well as a team last night (was expecting it to result in tired and stressed arguments but there was nothing) and he even encouraged me to take a softer approach with them at one point!!
Feeling a bit like super parents right now (even though I could sleep for a week)!!

Last night (night 2) was just as disruptive and they've been very whiny this morning but only DT1 is asking for her dummy (she has been the more reliant twin throughout) but distraction techniques are working - the toys they got from the dummy fairies, drinks and snacks, favourite TV shows. They're at nursery full time and haven't had them there for months, except for nap time, however, they happily napped yesterday without them apparently.

I am glad I put the dummies in the wheelie bin as I'd have been tempted to get them back this morning!

I think most of this morning's tantrums and crying are down to tiredness as they didn't sleep again til around 10:30pm last night

UPDATE - big improvement last night and today! Both girls asleep by 9:30pm and only a couple of small tantrums this morning. Both cried for their dummies a little bit last night but didn't put too much effort into it! Then DT1 came into our room this morning and said "I don't have dummies anymore, no, I'm a big girl. We gave them to the fairies and they gave them to the babies"!!
