Great. Heading to Lowestoft to see Grannie by the sea and it is tipping down . . .

Egypt · 09/08/2004 08:34

but it's going to brighten up later libb, don't worry. nice to have some cool air for a moment. my hayfever is doing my head in.

had a better night, although won't talk too loudly. bed at 8, woke at 12, 5, 6.45 (needed swaddling i think but stuck a boob in anyway) and 8. i woke at 4.48am precisely and charged through to her room to find she was fast asleep. i think that was what made her wake a few minutes later...having her mum's ear shoved against her nose. must....res...i....s...t.

nice to see you back spots. sorry dd was unsettled. could be a star thing..we have a mix of taurus and gemini's on here don't we.

well dd is gemini and she is pretty contented, doesn't stop moving however and always on the go, am going to have to watch her when she can crawl/walk. she can't sit still for a moment - jerking and bashing and kicking. smily first thing in the morning LOADS and likes her own way - i think. tries to pull her head up when you lie her down and she doesn't want to be there!

anyone else?

libb · 09/08/2004 08:42

Nice to see you again Spots!

Eygpt, I know what you mean about the flailing arms and legs - have also been caught out by the occasional headbutt too. DS also has an odd habit of holding his right arm up the air when I am changing his nappy or doing his "exercises" - his movements are very steady and fluid though, he looks like Superman just before he flies off - or Freddie Mercury performing live!

Perhaps I've just put him under his baby gym a few too many times? he thinks it is still there even when it isn't. is that something else to worry about? . . .

we also have the freddie mercury thing going on libb. v amusing.

kbaby · 09/08/2004 11:21

Well still have my car which I think dp is thinking of using for shopping and stuff and then just his car to pose around in. We're only going to get it on a years contract so that way if we do find its just way too impractical we can change it. Ive got a rover 200 which barely fits the pram so when dp gets his new one im going to have the one he has at the moment,a peogeut 307. Egypt its not too big and fits the m&p converse really well, maybe you should try that one.

DD is just starting to grow out of her 0-3 clothes and its so sad. I even had to buy pampers active fit nappies last week, shes no longer in the new baby nappies. Its so sad to think that shes no longer a newborn. But I do get excited when she starts doing something new e.g shes just started to bat things and try and lift them into her mouth.

We have a gemini and again always on the move. Sure she thinks shes running a marathon while lying down, arms and legs go flinging about everywhere. She also likes attention and gets frustrated because she cant do things. At the moment she cries under her play gym(which used to be her favorite) because she cant quite grab hold of anything. She tries bless her and she's almost got it but not quite. Shes sitting up with a bit of support and lies on her tummy with her arms holding her chest up. Oh and shes a chatterbox so god help me!! Not sure who she follows with that

spots · 09/08/2004 12:13

I think maybe the superman mercury thing is a sort of 'Omigod what is that on the end of my arm' hand discovery thing, also a small exploration of Near things and Far things (a la Father Ted and toy cows). We have it too and it cracks me up. Today it evolved into a rollover as DD pitted her (not insubstantial) weight behind the leading arm and rolled onto her side. We were impressed and so was she but she couldn't get any further so got into a puff.

Linnet does your dh work in the restaurant trade then? what kind of food?

We were in Speyside and the Black Isle for our holiday which was lovely, lots of butterflies and birch trees. I get hay fever too Egypt, that was v. annoying because all the grasses were out and we went on lots of walks that's a sneeze face by the way... Actually I found a tick on my shin yesterday evening, how foul. 'I went to Muir of Ord and all I brought back was this lousy tick'...

And I was so good and didn't complain about missing all of the last section of Big Brother the Breastfeeder's Friend. We were staying with people the night of the final who had it on but TURNED RIGHT DOWN so that we could talk...Please could somebody tell me why Jason got to the last two? did something mad happen?

libb · 09/08/2004 12:23

I hate Big Brother but have watched loads this time round! As you say, there is nowhere to go when feeding - I occasionally trying reading over his head but he gets quite indignant about it.

Earlier he was latched on and asked I him a question as you do - "do you want steak for dinner monkey?" or something equally daft and he took himself off and actually giggled! I love babies. He is currently perfecting his Queen tribute on the gym. Don't remember Freddie waving his legs around quite so much though.

I am clearly a Gemini as I talk too much . . .

Egypt · 09/08/2004 12:28

dont know spots. would have to ask dh about that as i am always in bed.

dh has a vw golf, and i will be using that when the hire car goes back and until we sell the mg. it was my little treat - found out later the same week i bought it that was pregnant. hmmm. a peugeot 307 sounds just right. we'll have to see. we are SO skint at the mo its scary. i think we have reached £0 for this month in our current account and dh doesnt get paid until 15th, AND we have a huge balance to pay on our credit card. oh my life. it dh who uses the credit card - i dont have one, nor want one, but all i see on the statement is motorcycle shop transactions. oh yes, he has a bike too! so that helps with the car situation a bit.

GeorginaA · 09/08/2004 12:36

That's not as bad as looking at your credit card statement that's only used for online shopping and seeing:

Can I ask a quick question in regards to development.
Ive been reading mariam stoppard and in the book it says theres signs to look for if your baby is a underachiever[dont know why I was reading this bit] but anyway im confused a bit. It says grasp refles- if you put a finger into a babies palm they will close their fingers. this reflex lasts until 6 weeks of age but will persisit longer if your child is developmentaly delayed.

When I put my finger in dd's palm she grasps it and shes 11 weeks. Does this mean she is behind? or is the book wrong. anyone elses d's still doing this

Egypt · 09/08/2004 16:26

kbaby, my dd never really grasped in the first place, much. i can remember doing it to other's babies when i was younger and they all grasped, but she never really did. she might hold on now for a bit but not for long....so i guess my dd is very underdeveloped!!! i'm not worried. she looks at you, smiles, bashes toys, lifts her head, etc so i am quite happy. your dd does all this too.

morning all

libb, so sorry, you were right, it did pee down the whole day...and night...hope you had a good time in lowestoft though. know it well. spent many holidays there when a child

well, had a good night..ish. dd went to sleep at 8.30 and woke at 2.20am, so thats great. just the next half of the night to sort out now. she woke at 5, then 7, put her back til 8. i spose that is pretty good going, but i can't get back to sleep sometimes before she's stirring again. either that or i dream that one of dh's work friends has come to stay, and decided that it was too hot for dd, so went into her room after she went back to sleep at 2.30 and opened her curtains, raised her blackout blind, opened the window, turned off the fan - which also acts as white noise, turned off the night light, took off her blankets and undone her vest. needless to say i was not happy as she didn't sleep. how bizarre.

and we sold the MG

prufrock · 10/08/2004 12:10

complete bollocks kbaby. Please do not read any developmental books - they are all rubbish (well, except "what to expect - teh first year, whcih is actually quite good). ds is still grasping things, and he's lots older than yours.
And I didn't mean you have to get up early - jsut that you can't have a lie-in and a long lunchtime sleep - I think I would choose teh lie-in as well if I didn't have a toddler. What am I saying - I did choose the lie in when I didn't have a toddler!
Georgina- I know what you man about not knowing whta to do with a 3 month old. I seem to remember doing so much with dd, ds just gets put down near where we are playing to watch But I really don't think they need much more than that. But my "Baby Play" book suggests:
Making faces, waving things in front of them (pom-poms, hanky, balloon), massage, sit-ups, looking in the mirror, tickling, rocking on tummy on a slighty deflated beach ball, cycling legs, stretching opposite arm/leg.

kbaby · 10/08/2004 17:03

thank god for that, thought she was normal and seems very alert and sociable and stuff. her new game today is flying, i lie on my back and put her belly down on my shins and we fly back and forth, think i have the most fun though.

dd also managed to poo all over a friends settee today, nappy was on but think she had a bit of a bad belly and it run all out the sides. not sure if well be invited back.
also decided on vegas for a wedding. trying hard to convince dd that we do not want a elvis impersonator.

not a good night last night; feed at 10.30, 2.30 woke at 4.30 and feed at 5.30. hope tonights better.

Egypt · 10/08/2004 18:40

prob just a hiccup last night kbaby. who am i to speak?!

dd has hardly slept at all today. i'm convinced she wont even attempt to go to sleep tonight. it's very strange but she hasn't grumbled. she had about an hour this morning at 10, then a quick 15 mins when i took her out in the car this afternoon, then another 15 mins just now, when i tried to get her to sleep - in the car again! am resorting to the car alot. she is just sitting in her rocker chair and playing with her noukie. (have you seen these?) seems quite content. strange. surely she should be sleeping much more. saying that, she did have a really good stretch last night. but yesterday she had 2 long sleeps.....hmmmm, we'll see.

spots · 10/08/2004 19:40

no! what's a noukie??

Egypt · 10/08/2004 20:18

noukies are toys made by a belgium company - noukies.com our friend from belgium sent dd a noukie which is basically a soft piece of material with a bear's head in the middle and loads of labels around the edges! theory is that babies love labels. you can see it here

it's so soft and comforting - may get myself one

spots · 10/08/2004 21:31

ah! I now understand the mystery present that dh's sister sent from the states. It's basically the same, but without the head... just a square of fleece with lots of labels round the edge. I was a bit mystified. Wish it had a face! yours is much cuter.

I love baby toys. have bought about ten in the last week...

Poor dd very weepy this evening. Or rather, screaming. Colicky, really. Why now I don't know. Has gone to bed finally in quite a perky mood as if nothing was amiss, which makes me suspect colic all the more.

Kbaby vegas sounds exciting! Any update on the job situation?

By the way after all my work expressing milk we were unable to go out for our wedding anniversary aftter all... DH's mum cancelled what was to be babysitting night. But it would have been toninght so in view of the colic, probably better not.

We went for a walk in the rain instead.

Linnet · 10/08/2004 23:32

The Noukie is a good idea, my friends nephew has a passion for labels and always has one in his hand. Dd2 was given something similar to a noukie when she was born but it's just a teddy face with the soft cloth round about no labels.
Dd2 won't hold onto anything for any length of time. She'll happily hold onto your finger for ages but dd1 keeps trying to give her small cuddly toys to hold but she won't do it, dd1 is not impressed!

dd2 got her Men C jab yesterday. I asked the HV about the 5 in 1 jab but we won't get it as dd2 will have finished her course by then. I had to take dd2 yesterday and hold her as dh was working so I'm a bad mummy in her eyes, lol

Yes Spots dh works in a restaurant, he's the supervisor, been there for years and years and years. It does the usual food, chicken, burgers, steaks, mexican, pizza's, pasta you get the idea. It's part of a chain and very popular. Before dd2 arrived I used to go meet him from work every Saturday night if he wasn't locking up.

Not much else to report here. It's rained constantly since Monday morning with quite a bit of thunder mixed in, scary stuff I hate it, dd1 loves it though. I'm glad about that though it means that I haven't passed my phobia on to her. Went into town today and went to look at the river to see how high it was, I'm sure they said on the news that we're on flood alert as it's so high and there's been so much rain with more to come. Still I guess they'll find out if the new flood defences work if the river breaks it's banks.

Ok going to go got birthday presents to wrap before bed, then an early start in the morning so dd1 can open all these presents that she's been given. Can't believe my first baby is going to be 7 tomorrow where does the time go? take heed all you mums of first babies it goes really fast so enjoy it while you can before you know it they're cheeky 7 year olds with an answer for everything, lol

Egypt · 11/08/2004 08:30

happy birthday to your dd2 linnet. what did she get?!!! weather has been the same here since monday morning.

quick question, dd's 2nd jabs are due 2 sept. will she get the 5 in 1 do you think? or do they follow the course through with the same jabs? also, it will be 5 weeks after her last, not 4. the nurse is away that week, so i booked a week later, but didnt think at the time to say 'but its her immunisations, due at 12 weeks.' do you think it matters or should i chase it up and move it forward. there must be another nurse who's covering.

Egypt · 11/08/2004 08:31

sorry, i meant dd1! 7 years can't fly THAT quickly!

GeorginaA · 11/08/2004 09:25

Egypt - it's minimum four weeks between jabs. It's okay to delay a week - after all, if your little one was a bit poorly at the time the jabs were due they wouldn't hesitate to put it back a week or two until she was better. Don't know whether they follow the same course through - am going to ask today as ds2 is going for his second dose of MenC and Hib this morning.

Egypt · 11/08/2004 12:46

thanks georgina.

my baby will just NOT go to sleep in the day by herself. she needs to be in the car, the pram or rocked to death in her chair with my finger in her mouth. i just fed her and she fell asleep on the breast. tried to put her in her cot and she screamed. picked her up, she fell asleep in my arms and then put her down again. she screamed so i left her - had to - the stuff in the garden was about to get poured on! she has quietened but is lying there chattering and kicking. she will definitely NOT go to sleep, i can guarantee it. she fights it like mad. anyone else's like this? what do i do? just leave her and leave her and leave her? i tell you she will be awake until she is hungry.

GeorginaA · 11/08/2004 13:20

Right, found out some more information from our surgery. Apparently, they have been directed (I don't know whether this is just our health authority or nationwide) to destroy all the old-style vaccines left and completely switch over to the new on the 27th September. The nurse is concerned because she fears some parents will refuse the 5-in-1 jab and also that the government won't get enough stocks of the 5-in-1 in time (it's being imported from Canada rather than being made here).

Also, I double checked about having a week's delay in (we're going away in September and I think it will coincide) and she said it was no problem at all. I even queried if it was safe being abroad when he hadn't completed the course and she said that they have their own immunity from you for up to a year anyway.
