Birthday presents for 1 year old daughter

It's my daughter's first birthday next month, and I am struggling to think of presents to get her.
She has quite a lot of varied toys already.
We're keeping it pretty low key and we'll just get her a few nice things.
On the day we're taking her out to the zoo and will get her a little cake ☺️
Any ideas gratefully appreciated thanks!

You have a lot of birthdays in your near future, and potentially friends and relatives who will also want to buy your daughter presents in time, too.

One way to avoid being drowned in plastic tat is to pick a couple of play systems, and buy from those, and tell anyone who asks that if they want suggestions that is what to go for.

Eg duplo (and then later, lego), and also Brio, the wooden train and track system. (Brio is great - has both building and playing opportunities, is lovely to handle, and the bits and pieces are really nice to look at.) This also has the advantage in that you (and your friends and relatives) don't necessarily have to spend a lot, because every little bit of lego or Brio will add to the whole playing system.

(And when your daughter is a lot older and has tired of them, she can give them away - or you can ebay them - as they last really well!)

Or books. Books are always good.

What about a stuffed toy of her choice from the Zoo?

A helium balloon in a box?
That's going to be our ( then) 9 month olds xmas present. Plus a good quality teddy.

I got a microscooter for mine which had a seat and low handle bar. The 3in1 deluxe one. She picked it up really quickly and now at 1.5 uses it with the seat but also is eager to start scooting which she does slowly. The big bobby car has also been a huge hit with my kids, even my eldest who is past the age group loves using it still and has a few trailers like the pet trailer and they a second seat attachment for the car. It's been used a lot more than the little tikes car.

Eh, I think using a really precious resource on a balloon is a really bad start to a child's life!

DD is going to turn 1 in October too.

We haven't gone too mad, though our choices are based on recommendation, not on what we actually wanted her to have (I'd love to surround her in cashmere teddies, and silk blankets, but it turns out they aren't very child-friendly)

We've chosen this: www.thetoyshop.com/baby-pre-school/walkers-ride-ons/VTech-First-Steps-Baby-Walker---Pink/p/391631?realSearch=false&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIv5eI9oWv1gIVw7vtCh3DawUTEAQYBCABEgL4LvD_BwE although it looks vile, I hear on good authority from friends that their 1-year-olds loved theirs. There is a less garishly pink primary colour version available too.

We've also got her trainset table like this one: www.tesco.com/direct/carousel-train-table-set/565-0324.prd?skuId=565-0324&pageLevel=sku&sc_cmp=ppcPX+-+ToysPX+-+Shopping+GSC+-+Tesco+Brand+-+Indoor+ToysPRODUCT+GROUP565-0324&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI747Wr4av1gIVQ77tCh0jNw4WEAQYASABEgJM4fD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CPz9hLOGr9YCFXKA7QoddU0Nqg&source=others and various family members are buying various bits of the Brio rail network, it'll also be good for snacks in the living room, Play Doh, crafts and Duplo when the time comes.

If you want something 'classier' than the pink plastic I recommended, a couple of friends are getting their children this: www.nordichouse.co.uk/large-rocking-mammoth-p-3005.html

I bought my DS some wooden toys for his birthday- a wooden stacking rings set, and a wooden fire engine are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. They were a great success- he loves them, and there's something so lovely and classic about wooden toys Grin

A pop up play tent. My DD played in it every day for a good couple of years and it was cheap as chips from eBay. IKEA also do them. Bonus points for being able to chuck all their shit toys in it each night to keep them out of sight Grin
