Book rec's for 8 year old boy

Does anyone please have good recommendations for books for an 8 year old boy? He enjoys reading and I'm trying to extend his repertoire past Horrid Henry. We definitely don't do Paddington (sadly) though we did like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory so RD might be an option. Any further thoughts greatly received :)

Not a huge fan myself, but my son loves Captain Underpants, Tom Gates, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and the Treasure Hunters series by James Patterson. Also the 'I funny' and Middle School books, although I think those are for older children. David Walliams' books also go down a treat and Mr Gum though they are totally off the wall.

Thanks. I've seen Diary of a Wimpy Kid around so will def look into that one.

The 'how to train your dragon' series is fantastic. Although it depends if you're wanting him to read them on his own and what his ability is. Some of the language is tricky.

Dirty Bertie and Yuck are what got my son finally into reading as they are funny
I can also recommend the Adventure Time graphic novels

Some of the Michael Morpurgo books are great for his age.
And yes to Wimpy kid and Tom Gates.

Lemondrop99 · 13/09/2017 23:09

The Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz

I second Michael Morpurgo, and good old Harry Potter. Also, interested to see everyone else's suggestions.

From Horrid Henry we did Dirty Bertie. If he likes those, then the illustrators other series e.g. The Bolds and Beasts of Olympus are big hits in my house.

Bloody Wimpy Kid is perennially popular.

BeBesideTheSea · 13/09/2017 23:27

The Bolds, Just William, beastquest

OhTheRoses · 13/09/2017 23:31

Spiderwick chronicles were popular here.
