Panic

I don't know if anyone can help. I have a two week old baby and a few days ago I started feeling very sore down below. At first I thought it was just my stitches, then I thought it might be thrush. I now realise it's a herpes flare up. I caught it in my early twenties and have been fortunate not to have much trouble with it since so I wasn't alert to it as a possibility. I've seen the gp and they agree and have some acyclovir.

However I am now absolutely beside myself with panic that I might have infected my baby unwittingly before I realised what it was. Maybe I didn't wash my hands well enough after using the loo, and in fact I went to the loo several times whilst breastfeeding, and I also fed her whilst I had a sitz bath - I could have easily touched baby without adequately washing. I know it can be fatal or cause severe disabilities. I don't think baby has any symptoms right now but I know it can take up to two weeks to appear.

I don't know if anyone else has been in this position. I don't even know why I'm posting as I know no one can tell me it's fine. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I've harmed my baby. I'm struggling with sleep deprivation anyway but now I feel sick with panic too. I don't know what to do with myself. Does anyone have any advice?

Ring your GP for advice. If you are ringing about a new born they will always make time to see you/speak to you.
