What to dress a newborn in

My baby is 4 weeks old and I haven't really taken her outside the house much yet due to not being overly confident feeding her or changing her when I'm not at home.
I'm taking her out today and its raining and not warm but not too cold either. What would you suggest I dress her in?
I would think a hat, vest, a onesie and a blanket would be sufficient but I've been told that's still not enough.

Hello! As far as I'm aware the advice is to dress bubba in one more layer than you would wear. You could always take a little cardi or jacket with you too. Check her temperature by feeling that in on her front or back (as opposed to her hands or feet). Hope this helps and enjoy your trip out 😊 X

Sorry - typo! Meant "feeling the skin on her front or back". x

Thanks 😁
I'll take a cardi with me then. It's so hard as I've been boiling hot the entire pregnancy and still hot now so I'm a terrible judge of temperature!

Tell me about it, OP - I'm 36+2 and have never been so consistently warm as I am now! Congratulations on your little one. x

What temperature is it where you are and will you be mostly indoors or outdoors with the baby?

LoopThehoop · 08/09/2017 11:17

Dd at that age would wear a vest sleepy suit and a cardigan with a blanket on if cold .
In v cold weather she had a snow suit to

DigitalGhost · 08/09/2017 11:34

It's 15 degrees and drizzling. I'm walking to town which is a 40 minute walk then I'll mostly be inside. To me that's quite warm only 3 degrees off shorts weather.
I'm northern though so probably tougher than most lol.

That's cold for a little baby though. Vest, bodysuit, cardigan, hat, blanket and socks over the bodysuit.

NinaMarieP · 08/09/2017 12:08

I've been taking my similar ages LO out in vest, sleepsuit, cardigan, hat and blanket. Once indoors if its warmer the blanket and/or cardigan can come off again.

Blueskyrain · 10/09/2017 20:52

Mine is a few weeks older, but if I was going down the sleepsuit route (we usually do outfits), then vest, sleepsuit, blanket, and if outdoors a lot, probably a hat.
we tend to dress her on the cooler side though compared to some people, but she seems fine with it!! There's a huge range of acceptable layers - unless you go to extremes, you'll be fine!
