Where can I get unisex pyjamas for a 3yo?

DS is 3, and needs new pyjamas. DD is 6 months, and may one day inherit said pyjamas. But I'm finding it impossible to find reasonably plain pyjamas that would suit a boy and a girl (I know I can put DD in dinosaur pyjamas or DS in fairy pyjamas, but I'd rather just buy plain pyjamas that they could both wear).

DS isn't into any particular tv characters, or really anything much. He does love sheep, so something with sheep would work.

I know there's the likes of Frugi etc, but they're quite expensive. I've tried Next and Mothercare with no luck. Surely there's somewhere on the high street that I can buy a plain pair of child's pyjamas?!

GAp are still pretty boy/girl but some of them are more neutral and would do either. They are also a nice snug fit if you have slimmer side and have cuffs of the ankle so you can size up! Wait for 30% off offer (comes around practically every fortnight) and they are about a tenner a pair.

Asda usually have checked PJs in the boys section.
Amazon?

BertieBotts · 06/09/2017 17:20

John Lewis have apparently just started to label their clothes gender neutrally so perhaps there's something there?

In general the boys' section tends to have more things that can be reasonably passed off as girls' things than the other way around which is a bit silly, but there you go.

Gap used to have lovely bright PJs which would suit either. DS had a rainbow snake pair with stripy trousers!

Try H&M, I usually find their things good.

SpoonfulOfJam · 06/09/2017 17:59

Bought DS some gorgeous orange ones from gap. Dinosaurs in the top, navy striped trousers.

Cakescakescakes · 06/09/2017 18:00

Next online have loads of pj's in star or stripe or neutral patterns?

SpoonfulOfJam · 06/09/2017 18:01

I do think though that they get worn and washed so much- with nappy leaks (or DS freeing his willy from the nappy) they can get through 2 or 3 sets a night, and last a good 18 months, that they end up too tatty to hand down.

lilydaisyrose · 06/09/2017 18:01

Mothercare Little Bird is funky & mostly unisex!

BelfastSmile · 06/09/2017 19:14

Thanks everyone! Will check out those links. We don't have a John Lewis, but I'll check it out online.

I'm not sure how well pyjamas will last to be handed down, but I'm just on a mission now to find something where I have the option!

@BertieBotts thanks for your list especially- don't know how I'd missed those ones in Next! They're exactly what I'm looking for! Thanks again!

OP our PJs from Gap, John Lewis, and Next are all on their third kid. Most nights we only use one pair per child so that might have something to do with it.

BertieBotts · 06/09/2017 19:52

If you're looking in store, they don't always carry all of the ranges. But I think you can order online to pick up in store (no commitment, pay on pick up) if you need to.

Shantotto · 06/09/2017 20:00

Little Bird at mothercare do amazing retro styled pyjamas that would work for both. I love the ones we have.

Scotinoz · 06/09/2017 20:56

I've handed down pyjamas quite successfully between two. Some have faired better than other (but quite frankly, my standards are low these days so I'm unbothered by a few raspberry and weetabix stains on the cuffs). M&S, Next, Mothercare, John Lewis and GAP stuff have all faired the best. The supermarket stuff seems to wear out 😕

BertieBotts · 06/09/2017 21:20

I think it must depend on your kids TBH, DS barely wears his out at all and they are always nice. T-shirts and shoes though...

beltanelove · 09/09/2017 19:03

If you've a tk Maxx , the kids section often have lovely PJs in the boys section which are unisex and often from boutiquey brands like frugi, little green radicals.

beltanelove · 09/09/2017 19:03

But cheaper!

BelfastSmile · 10/09/2017 14:34

Hadn't thought of TK Max - we've one opening soon, so I'll check it out! Also got a nice bright pair of lion jammies in M&S the other day, so that's one pair at least! They only had one in his size or I'd have stocked up!

OP posts:
welshweasel · 10/09/2017 14:40

2 or 3 sets a night! We usually get 4 or 5 nights out of a pair, except on the weekend as he'll stay in them until after breakfast so they usually get weetabixed! He's just growing out of his 12-18 month pairs and they'd all be good for at least one more child.

BertieBotts · 10/09/2017 22:35

Oh good call on M&S - they are actually surprisingly good! Look at these too from the girls' section - cute :) www.marksandspencer.com/pure-cotton-pyjamas-3-months-8-years-/p/p60116468?image=SD_04_T86_4985C_E4_X_EC_90&color=BLUEMIX&prevPage=plp
